The Big Search

It was -6 this morning but the wind had died down which made a huge difference in keeping the house warm.  Both wood burners were kept burning all night last night and today. At 10:00 am the thermometer was reading 0.  I spent the morning hauling in wood and doing dishes and chatting on line to a lady with a hospital bed.  Last night Rhoda found the perfect hospital bed on Facebook marketplace for grandma.  She sent me the link, I sent a message plus a friend request to the owner and this morning she responded that yes it was still available.

We really needed a bed that raises and lowers and has railings. It is electric, both the head and foot also raise.  Right now the bed mom has that we are renting does not have railings and she needs those to be able to turn herself, nor does it raise up or lower down to help with transfers. We are renting this bed for $31.00 a month and it is just not suitable for mom's needs.  Ruth, Steven and I will leave around 7:30 am tomorrow to drive up near Chicago to pick up this new bed.  It is almost brand new. The man using it had cancer and had to move in with her daughter. He was not able to climb the stairs of her house so they bought this hospital bed. He only used it for 3 months and passed away on Christmas Eve.  This afternoon I drove in to Peoria to do some banking then to Trivoli for fresh eggs. As soon as I got back I brought more wood in then started on supper. Tonight was my turn to bring dinner over for Karin and mom.  We had a good evening and Karin taught me a safer way to do transfers.  Mom has not been able to exercise with the pain in her leg and we have noticed she is getting weaker which was making transfers much harder.  She is feeling better and may soon be able to restart her exercises.
