Dr. Hoerr called with a good update on our Friesian filly Thalia. She was in a trailering accident getting her leg cut quite badly on the way home from buying her on November 6th and has been in the hospital at Dr. Hoerr's vet clinic since then. The good news is the terrible leg wound is healing and she is sound on it. The not so good news is we still need to keep it wrapped at least for the next 5 days but we could take her home finally. The stock trailer was hooked up to the truck and I was on the way. When I arrived a man came out of the clinic with 2 adorable teddy bear looking dogs. I asked him what kind of dogs they were and he told me Shipoo. As I have not heard of that before I had to ask. It turned out they were a cross between a Shi Tzu and a miniature Poodle

Thalia Home
When I walked into the clinic there was Jennifer, the owner of Madiera's 2022 filly. Of course we needed to get some updates on Zena and it sounds like her daughter Kate is becoming an expert with her Warlander filly. Chris and Aaron were going to help with loading Thalia but when I walked into the barn I was stunned by all the sheep. Dr. Hoerr has had a record year for lambs. There were brand new lambs and ewe's in stalls and pens and even temporary stalls in the aisle.
There is an interesting story about the ewe and the lambs below. She had one lamb, the black and white. The little white lamb was born from a ewe that had FOUR lambs.
Dr. Hoerr removed one of the 4 and gave it to the ewe above. She has adopted it. The ewe below is content with the other 3 and these 3 are doing well.
Below is the holding pens for those still to deliver.
Thalia didn't want to be haltered and was not sure about stepping out of the building as she has been stalled since Nov 6th. but with a little encouragement she jumped in the trailer and was tied. She stood well tied. The trip home was uneventful. Below she is waiting for me to unload her.
She was put in the field and went right up to the gate to greet Lea but wasn't quite sure at first if this was her mom or not.
They were sniffing each other, Thalia was baby talking at first then realized it was Lea and started squealing while Lea squeaked.
Below is the video when I let them together. Lea was so happy, she kept making the soft squealing sound while Thalia tried to nurse.
Lea is dried up and Thalia is weaned but after the trauma she needed the comfort of nursing. Lea spent the next 15 minutes making sure Evan couldn't get close to HER baby. I left them when they settled down to graze. Once I was sure they would be fine I went in to make some lunch. After lunch Mark and I went out to clean up the branches he cut down on either side of the driveways. They were tied to the golf cart then dragged to the burn pile.
We had a large pile by the time we finished.
At 5:50 pm we left for Farmington school to attend the Christmas concert for the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. Kensley in 3rd and Taegan is in 5th grade. Spark and Rhonda were there to watch their grandsons Charlie and Max perform and John and Beth were there to watch their grandson Jackson perform.
Below is a video of the concert.
