A Family Affair

Ruth and Fedi are camping at Middle Grove so Diane and Mike stayed out there also. Instead of walking I went in to visit with mom and Karin staying there until it was time to cook breakfast. After breakfast I finished the barn for our guests coming in today for a birthday party. Then searched the  house and Mark's car for the missing wallet. No luck that wallet has vanished.  Mark wanted my help on the outdoor arena as we needed boards replaced. Below Mark is taking the broken boards down.

We had 6 that needed replacements.
We use boards salvaged from other projects so these repairs don't cost much.
Of course they needed to be cut to fit, but Mark has wonderful battery operated saw and a battery impact driver for this job.
We finished before 11:00 am.
Amy was supposed to arrive then so I went to find tack for Missy and Cookie. The saddle I thought would fit Cookie best was really dusty so I pulled out the Murhpy oil soap which is great for saddles and cleaned that up only to realize it was missing the girth strap. I had to go get another saddle for Cookie. Amy brought along 2 of her grand daughters and her daughter Jamie for a trail ride.
Mike and Hunter took Sally and Jewel on the death trails first to make sure they were passable after the big storm this week. They were not passable. The second creek crossing was washed out and was thick with mud. There was a downed tree crossing when Sally went to jump it her back legs slipped and went into the deep mud. She was not able to pull them out. They had to take her saddle off and actually pull Sally out by her halter.
Mike sent the picture below.
Sally was fine once back standing. The saddle was put back on and they made it home safe just in time to work with Amy's grand daughters in the outdoor arena. Once Mike was sure they would be fine they left for the trails (NOT the death trails)

Pictures were taken and if you would like to see the rest of the pictures click HERE
Mike worked first with them in the outdoor arena then took them out on the trails. Below are a few videos.

Jamie got to go on the second trail ride riding Missy while Isla rode on the golf cart.  Below the second ride is starting.

OF course they have to gallop up the hill.
After Amy and the girls were done riding Mike and Hunter took both 4 wheelers down with a new culvert and installed it. By the time they finished Mike said, "the death trails can no longer be called that, they are now the living trails." The 4 wheelers can now drive the entire way and help keep the trails open. We really need to train more riding horses and start up the trail rides again.
The horses were put away just in time so I could go help Mark back a camper into position at Joan's house. Early this morning I caught a mouse but just by one foot. The mouse was trying to get out of the trap so the trap was thrown outside with the mouse still attached. When I got back to the house decided to go find the mouse trap and was surprised to find a snake working hard to swallow the mouse but couldn't get it off the trap. I reached down to open the trap and the snake regurgitated that mouse quickly and left.
That mouse is all compressed thin and long.
Amy had her group over at the picnic area eating lunch and just then Jamie saw another snake. This was even bigger.
They have such pretty colors. Amy, Jamie and the girls went in to visit with mom before heading down to the lake.
My barn guests arrived right then. I met them at the drive. They put balloons up for their birthday party on the address sign then along the drive to show the way to the party.
By the time I got back Amy, Jamie and Mia were in the canoe collecting the canoes and boats that had been blown away during the storm.
Isla had caught a tiny frog she named Timothy and some minnows. She sat down and a tiny sweat bee landed on her thumb.

They don't sting so she left it be until it flew off. This evening Mark and I went out to dinner at the Bartonville Diner. We shared a senior meal getting 2 salads instead of a salad and a potato.
The walleye senior meal is $10.45 but we had to pay $2.00 extra for the second salad.
The fish is large fillets of good white fish and really is delicious.
It comes with the vegetable of the day, bread and butter and pudding for dessert. Plenty for the 2 of us. After our meal we drove across the street to Kroger to pick up blue cheese dressing then to Aldi where I purchased fresh chicken breasts, cauliflower, broccoli, sugar snap peas, carrots, onions, celery, rice, cake mix and ice cream for our Sunday meal and add to that egg rolls and fruit.
Kim sent a message that Jon is out of the hospital and has been moved to rehab where he will spend 20 days.
