De-Worming Day
Still no foal from Lola, I left her out last night as her udder hadn't changed. As soon as it is light enough to see she was checked. Diane and Beth left Saturday for Gulf Shores so Ruth, Joan, mom and I were the only walkers. Mark went over to work on mom's 1989 Kubota. The battery would no longer hold a charge so he took it out to replace it. Below is the old battery. What do you think, did he do the right thing? I couldn't believe the shape it was in, no wonder it wouldn't hold a charge.
After the walk I took Mark's car to the Peoria post office to pick up the Berean mail then over to Aldi in Pekin for groceries. I spent $190.00 but bought meat for 3 Sunday night meals and ingredients for chicken soup. The groceries were being put away when Rhoda and Sarah arrived with Iris and Zion. Rhoda tacked up Cookie so they could have a ride. Below are a few of the pictures. Below Iris is petting Cookie while Rhoda gets her tack ready.
They were pretty pleased to climb on.
Cookie is such a great pony for grandchildren.
They even were brave enough to ride with no hands.
After Iris got off Zion got to ride Cookie faster and she was very pleased to ride with no hands by herself.
After the ride the girls helped with the de-worming of all the horses by carrying each de-wormer to me as needed. The 3 mares with foals were given Safeguard as were Lola, Jury and Soul. The 2 yearlings were given Strongid and the riding horses were all given Quest Plus.
The temperature started dropping quickly so Sarah took the girls into the house while Rhoda brought out Jewel's 2020 filly to get new pictures and a new video for the website. Below she is leading her into the stall barn for a quick groom.
She is tall for her age and has lots of hair. Check out the length and thickness of that tail and she won't even bee a year old until May 29th. She was taken to the outdoor arena first for a video.
We finished the video in the round pen then took a few pictures for the website.
She has wonderful conformation and a very sweet disposition but her movement is MOST impressive. Check out how high off the ground that trot is in the picture below.
Who ever ends up with her will be very pleased. She leads, loads, ties and tries to please. She is for sale for $5000.00 and that really is a bargain for a yearling of this quality. Her registration paper is posted below.
She has a current coggins and was de-wormed today with a full tube of Strongid. When the girls left I sat down at the computer to order more de-wormers as today I finished up everything I had left. Of course that means checking all the vet supply websites plus ebay. I ended up buying 12 Quest Plus and 12 Strongid for a total of $155.00 that included the tax of $15.00 (that tax is just plain highway robbery). I'll keep my eye out for the next few months for Safeguard to go on sale as I like to rotate de-wormers when needed. Mark brought home a brand new battery for mom's Kubota and took that over with the golf cart this evening. After he got back I used the golf cart to bring in mares. We have snow/rain mix predicted for tonight with snow tomorrow then more rain. I don't want the foals outside in that kind of weather. Lola is due and this evening bagged up pretty good. No waxing but she can't be left outside just in case she delivers so was brought into one of the foaling stalls and her companion Soul was brought into the other just to keep Lola company. Tomorrow morning I'm going to be picking up a lot of horse manure. Karin borrowed the truck and trailer this afternoon to take horses to Jubilee. The truck will need to be unhooked in the morning as I have an appointment at Peoria Tire and Vulcanizing to have the oil changed and the tires rotated while I'm at Berean. Mom will be following me there so we can drop off the truck.
