Winter Prep

It was 59 degrees this morning and our coats and sweat shirts were removed during the walk. We had another beautiful sunny 75 degree day and got lots of outdoor work done. Right after the walk the trailer was moved into the indoor arena and Valentino brought inside loaded and unloaded 4 or 5 times then tied to the trailer. He is now just following me straight in without hesitation. He was left tied so the other two could be put back in the paddock.

I needed to have him loaded and on the road by 9:15 am for his trip to Hoerr Vet clinic for his coggins test and health certificate for travel. He will be leaving next week for his new home. Valerie and Tessa were glad to get out but kept calling for Valentino and of course he would call back. His stall was given a quick pick before loading him up for the trip. We arrived just before 10:00 am, got the bill paid before Dr. Pallen came out to draw his blood for the test. When I opened the door of the trailer he was posing very nicely. He looks so majestic with his head held high. He was very well behaved for the pictures and the blood draw not even flinching. When we got back to the farm he was left in the trailer until his stall was cleaned, fresh bedding put down, the water buckets filled, and more hay put in. He led very nicely into his stall and settled right down to eat. I'm so pleased with his behavior. Valerie and Tessa's stall was also given a good cleaning. Today is our last warm day, we have cold and rain moving in. As soon as Mark got home we started splitting wood. We have huge piles that still need splitting and stacking.
Below Mark has just added more hydraulic fluid to the splitter before we started work today.
Mark and I worked on splitting. When Mackenson arrived he finished filling the trailer with the wood we were splitting. When I took the car over to get the truck Mackenson took my place on the splitter.
The trailer was hooked up to the truck and we took this trailer load over to Ruth and Fedi's. Fedi wasn't home but Ruth came out to help unload the trailer.
They try to heat their entire house with wood all winter long. When the trailer was unloaded we took it back to the wood pile and kept working. The next load will be brought over to our wood shed.  We worked until we started losing daylight. Tonight's dinner was deluxe potato soup. It was good and filling.  We don't know what winter will bring but we certainly want to prepare for it the best we can.
