We had a loud storm move in last night with bright flashes of lightning and huge cracks of thunder. It wasn't until morning that we discovered the storm did more than just rain although we got almost 2 inches of rain out of it.
Mark saw the limb down first.
Now there is only 1 big branch left on that tree. Right after breakfast Mark and Mackenson went to work cutting it up and hauling the branches to the burn pile.
The truck of this tree is just massive.
Below is a short video of when they started and the end of their labor.
My first job of the morning was to check on the mares and give Sheena her bute and sulfa. She is walking much better but the leg is quite swollen. I needed to be at mom's this morning when I got there Mom was watching Candid Camera, an old black and white television show. We laughed and laughed, too bad they don't make shows like that anymore. Ruth came at 11:00 am to take my place. I went shopping first to Sam's and then Aldi for groceries. It is wonderful to be able to walk again. I had stopped going to Sam's club as the walk through the store was just too hard. Karin had given me a list and between the 2 stores I found everything she needed. That was dropped off first before going home to unload our groceries. Mark helped bring them in from the car. Our apartment guests had left so as soon as we had lunch I went up to get the apartment cleaned. The bedding was put in the brand new washer and turned on and instead of working I got an error code. No water was getting into the washer. Mark and I were so proud of ourselves for getting it in but we forgot to turn the hot and cold water on. After turning on the water the washer worked perfectly. For supper tonight we had BLT sandwiches with our first home grown tomato perfectly red and vine ripened. It was delicious. This evening I noticed Jewel and her colt came up to the paddock for a drink. The others didn't follow. Jewel's colt was upset that his buddy stayed across the pond. He left his mom and galloped all the way back to his buddy, Madiera's colt.
Mike and Diane came over with a chain saw and weed whacker. They wanted to move the tramp away from the barn and knock down the weeds and saplings that had grown into the trampoline.
Of course Diane didn't let him quit with just that, Mike also got the weed whacking done around the manure spreader, around the barn and the garage.
Check out how that tree grew right through the spring on the tramp.
The guest coming in for the 5th wheel tonight sent a message they were 30 minutes out at 8:00 pm. I was pretty sure it would not be pitch dark by the time they arrived so did not turn the barn lights on but made sure the camper lights were on. The sun tonight was blood red. No clouds but very hazy so maybe it is still smoke from Canada causing it.
When I came in for the evening I made two pans if rice crispy treats for our dessert tomorrow. We tried out a small piece each. Not as good as a scotcheroo but still good.
We are very thankful for the rain. The fields are growing well. We should get a good second cutting. I think we will sleep good tonight.
