Oksana Has a Colt

Oksana was very restless in the evening last night so I was sure she was in the first stage of labor. Amy came to stay and help. I thought Oksana would deliver by midnight but that just wasn't to be. She pawed, paced and munched on hay. At 1:20 her water broke and at that point she laid down.
She stood up when the baby started coming and pushed for a while standing then laid back down.

We thought she would stay down as by now the head was coming also but again she stood up.
We thought she might need a little help with what is called elbow lock but one big push and the baby slid out. Below Amy is removing the sack from his face.

The towels were bought out and Amy went to work drying him. It was cold during the night with the temps falling to the low 30s.

We like to keep the cord attached as long as possible and was glad when Oksana stayed down for a while.

She looked back, saw the colt and then stood up almost dragging him a bit as he was still in the sack.

Below are the pictures of Oksana meeting her new colt.

He really is huge, 11 days over due and long long legs.

Below he is learning to balance on them but that didn't last long and the next picture shows he is down.

Oksana is a very good mom, getting in position then standing very still as he rooted around.

Below he is all dried off and looking silver. I think this one is going to be one of the special ones.
He was born at 1:30 am April 1st, 2020 and by 2:12 am Amy and I were both on our way homes, happy but very tired. Below is a video of the birth.
