Shipping to Kansas
Before the walk this morning Cor Arianna was teased and even though she was suppose to be in she wouldn't show. Clair showed a little but was covered yesterday, she may be going out.
Last night Emma was guarding her stuffed teddy bear from Darcy.
She forgot to guard it this morning, Darcy claimed it, pulled it into the middle of the room and showed Emma what these stuffed animals are suppose to be used for.
We weren't sure if Darcy was daring Emma to just try to take it out from under her or needed a nice soft spot to put that huge big old rear end.
Eliza and her filly were brought into the stall barn this morning with the air conditioner set at 78 degrees and off I went to work.
On the way home from work we got a phone call, Raven's semen would be needed tomorrow in Kansas. Hoerr vet clinic was called to arrange for Dr. Hoerr to come collect Raven and ship it out. Because of the extreme heat indexes of around 99 degrees, Raven was hosed off and brought into the air-conditioned barn until Dr. Hoerr arrived.
When he got here we brought Clair out to collect Raven. Raven was used yesterday but still gave 80 ccs of dense sperm, more than enough to ship to Kansas with plenty to take back and test. At this point I told him about Cor Arianna's behavior. When a mare has a 40 ml follicle the day before and lots of edema she should be in a standing heat. We brought Raven over and so he could see with his own eyes how she was acting and sure enough in front of Dr. Hoerr she kicked at Raven.
She was put in a stall, the ultrasound machine brought back out. Steven Marchal had just finished the mowing and came in to help hold her so I could get pictures.
Today the follicle is a 45mm and even more edema. Below is the actual follicle on the ovary.
So it is obvious she is progressing, should be standing, we have plenty of left over semen the decision was made to AI her. Below Dr. Hoerr has everything prepared for the procedure.
And the actual AI:
Cor Arianna was given a shot to induce ovulation within 36-40 hours and an appointment was made for Friday morning for another ultrasound If she has ovulated she will be infused with a special antibiotic.
After Dr. Hoerr left for Fed-Ex to ship out the semen, Steven helped me move in another round bale for the boys.
