Weaning Day for Lily's Colt

We were awakened just before 5:00 am with flashes of lightning and some booming thunder. I stopped in at mom's house about 7:15 am. Mom said she had a good night and slept well until the storm woke her up. She and Joan didn't get to  bed until close to 10:00 pm. I left mom's house at 8:00 am to back the stock trailer into the barn for easy loading as by this time it was raining. Mike brought Bulu and Holly over and loaded them in the front of the trailer while I got a halter on Madiera and brought Madiera and her colt through the side door of the barn to load them in the back of the trailer. Madiera loaded fine, the colt couldn't figure out how to step up into the trailer but once Mike picked up his foot, he climbed in next to his mom. I arrived at Hoerr Vet Clinic a few minutes late but that was not a problem as I had to wait about 10 minutes.

I was thankful Aaron was around, he helped bring the horses into the clinic and then helped load them once done. Bulu was first and it didn't take long for Dr. Hoerr to declare her pregnant. Bulu was the only mare pregnant today. Holly was next. We could not tell Dr. Hoerr when she was covered or even if she was.
We gave her a shot to short cycle her but we never saw her come into season. We finally put her in with Valiant but even then after living with him for over 2 weeks never saw her come in and be bred.
Dr. Hoerr could not call her pregnant but she was also not in season, nor had she ovulated within the last few days.
Madiera was last, no pictures of her, she would not go in the stocks so while she was standing quietly in front of them Dr. Hoerr just went ahead and sonagrammed her where she was standing. She is open. I had to give her a shot to short cycle her the last time and I think we just didn't catch her in time. Instead of heading to Middle Grove I took them back to the Hanna City farm. Mark was asked to help with a repair in the game room of the barn so he got his tools and came with me.

Below he is just finishing up.
We got that done before the guests arrived. I left then for Diane's office to reconcile the Horsemeister check book and was pleased to find no mistakes, at least on my end. The bills are paid and we still have money in the bank. Not a lot but enough to pay the farmer when he comes to mow, rake and bale our second cutting. At 4:00 pm Berlica, Mike and I loaded up Bulu and Holly to take them to Middle Grove. We let them go then took the 4 wheeler up to the top to find the herd. Lily's colt was haltered and only then did I think to take any pictures.

That is Tessa the 2 year old filly out of Rosaleigh by Evan below.
22 year old Lily is posted below. She, Sangria and Lily's colt were all in the mud puddle when we arrived. Lily's colt had rolled, Sangria had rolled but Lily had just laid down so only one side was covered in mud the other side just had some splotches of mud.
Mike drove the 4 wheeler leading the colt while Berlica led Lily and I followed to encourage the colt to keep up if he thought of stopping or running back to the herd. We made it down to the trailer, loaded both, tied the colt then took Lily out of the trailer.
Mike and Berlica took off on the 4 wheeler to find Bulu and Holly as they had not come up the hill. They found them. Berlica took the video below.
Below they are coming down the hill once the herd was all together.
We stopped for gas on the way back. The truck was about half full but is going out twice tomorrow.
The colt unloaded fine. Mike led him up to the middle paddock to meet the mares. Below he is meeting Jewel.

Next he met Jury.

When Mike put him in the paddock Cookie came right over to care for him, the poor motherless baby, she is a great baby sitter.

He stopped calling and settled right in with the herd. Next Jewel was teased and covered by Evan. I went in then to get some supper as it was already after 5:30 pm. This evening Mike brought Curlin out to start her training. She is a 4 year old mare and is really nice.

Below is a video of him working her.
It has been a long day but there is so much to be thankful for. The rain this morning, the confirmed pregnancy of Bulu, the repair done on the barn, the happy guests that came both to the barn and the foaling apartment and the no drama in the weaning of  Lily's colt.
