Making Plans

My plan today was to go to Middle Grove to pick up Lily's colt and bring him back for weaning but when we woke up the weather was supposed to turn and rain start by 9:00 am. I went out to check waterers and the horses as the sun was coming up in the East and dark clouds were forming in the West. The picture below is looking through the barn at the dark clouds with the sun shining into the indoor arena.

I drove over to the barn and found both the South door and the East door had been left open all night. We have hinges on them that automatically close them but neither was latched shut. One more thing to check after a busy Sunday. No harm was done. The picture below was taken from the South side of the barn looking West before the walk.,
The picture below was taken at the main drive looking West.
Ruth over slept so she came later and went straight to mom's to visit there. Diane, Joan and I did one round then stopped at Diane's. Mike was power washing the truck and the Eclipse trailer for his trip to pick up the Thoroughbred mare Candy.
Nice to have that trailer clean again. He wasn't quite ready for Diane so she finished the walk then they pulled out for their 7 hour round trip. Joan was taken home on the golf cart. She has all 4 campers ready to go out. Diane was not happy with how they were lined up, the numbers on those campers are not in order. Not sure if you can see in the picture below but from left to right they read, 4,1,3,2. Doesn't bother me at all. We are not the same.
At 9:00 am I called Hoerr vet clinic to make an appointed to have Jewel, Bulu and Madiera sonagrammed. That is now scheduled for Thursday at 8:45 am. If all 3 are pregnant we will haul them out to Middle Grove and bring back Lily's colt, Tessa and Valerie. Those 2 year old fillies will keep Lily's colt company while being weaned and they can be started with some round pen training at the same time. Always good to have a plan in place. Today Mark wanted Mackenson to help finish the perimeter fencing and I wanted Berlica's help mowing paddocks. When Berlica arrived I had the small Kubota in the short shelter paddock. She took over and was able to finish that paddock.

Next she went into the pond pasture. Some of those weeds were taller than the tractor.

By the time I got out to the field to check Mark and Mackenson's job they had just finished the last strand of wire and were packing up the trailer.
That is such a big job and Mark is really glad to have that job done. Each year the fence is destroyed, we think by deer slamming into it and each year he has to replace some of the wires.
It started sprinkling and the mower was not running right so I had Berlica quit. Mark and Mackenson went to Joan's to get all of the wheel bearings greased on all 4 campers. I saw that Jury was standing by Valiant's paddock so pulled her out and teased her. She is in and this year we decided to use Evan on her. She wasn't really ready to stand but will be soon, she was showing. I ended up putting her in with Evan and they were grazing together happily.  He did not try to breed her so maybe she isn't really in.

He decided to have a good roll.

When he jumped up he started galloping toward Jury so she took off galloping too. The weather is nice and cool and they enjoyed a good run before settling back down to graze.
Just then Mike and Diane pulled up with Candy the new mare.

She is a nice mare, quiet and seems very personable. She was teased and is not in season. She was put in Ribbon's old paddock which is separate from all the other paddocks just in case she is carrying something our mares are not used to. I went back out to keep mowing and was only able to mow another 20 minutes before the tractor started hesitating. Mark thinks he may need to change the fuel filter. When it started sprinkling again Mark put the golf carts back in the garage and we are done for the day. We did not get a lot of rain, not even enough to dampen the driveway.
