The email below came through from the Gutweins who live in the same compound as Joan & Tim's family. Please pray for their safety!
Greetings to everyone. Just wanted to send a quick update to let you know that although things are chaotic in the country, we are safe here where we live. The rioting in the streets came after it was announced last night around 9:00 p.m. that the hand-picked man for the current president’s replacement, had barely rec’d enough votes to move into the final January 16th run-off against a former first lady. The people’s choice, a carnival singer, was third making him out of the race. The people want change, and now they see that the continued fraud and mishandling of money continues. There are no vehicles moving on the roads, and tires and old cars are burning all over Cayes. We heard gunshots through the night, but thankfully we are hearing that it was U.N. shooting blanks to try to stop some of the chaos, especially the burning of the insides of 3 government buildings. The airport in Port is closed for today. Continue to pray for this country. Jan is in Port with Ed and Jeni Schwartz and although they won’t make it here today, we hope things will open up tomorrow. Nothing is open in town and we will remain on our compound for today. Below is an email from Frantz and Doris Cloitaire.
Trusting in Him, Jan, Val and family
Hi all,
It was terrible last night. Shooting all around us and then they started big fires right outside our gate. I think it was after two when I finally drifted off. I was really scared and we prayed a lot. Stayed in contact with the Martin's. They were in this too. The air is so heavy with tire smoke I hardly can breathe. And they just started shooting again.
Please, pray for our country.
Doris
