Ruth to the Rescue

During the night, probably around 11:00 pm Mark and I were wakened to a clatter clatter clump in the kitchen. I exclaimed, "did you hear that?"  Mark replied, "I've been hearing strange things in the kitchen all evening."  The noise came again and instead of getting up to check it out decided to wait until morning. Saturday was a long day and we were both tired. By 1:00 am the noise got louder and more insistent so I finally decided to get up and check it out.  There was a mouse in the cupboard under the kitchen sink with it's hind leg caught in a trap. The poor thing looked at me and when I picked up the trap, it reached up and clung with both front legs to the trap. I just couldn't kill it in cold blood and since it was only 13 degrees outside just threw the trap and mouse outside. I've heard freezing to death isn't a terrible way to go. When morning came I sent Mark out to retrieve the trap but he couldn't find it.  Either that mouse was able to drag the trap and all to safety or some animal grabbed the mouse and took the trap with it. Either way I lost a good trap. So much for feeling bad about the mouse. David went out hiking early and took the picture below of the sunrise over the Illinois river.

HE also saw a bald eagle roosting up on a tree limb. Mark and I drove separate to church as he had to work on the grid for the church thermostats. Ruth took mom to church today as Joan is now in Gulf Shores. For dinner tonight we had haystacks. Addyson helped prepare the meal including making cinnamon rolls for our dessert.  What we didn't know was that Sarah and Nolan were bringing Nolan's birthday cake for our dessert.  After dinner each child that wanted to were able to put icing on their own cinnamon roll and then eat it.  That made those extra special.  After dinner the adults left to play volley ball at the Hanna City gym while the kids stayed here. As it is still very cold outside the kids brought down one of the craft containers for after dinner and did they ever have fun digging through and picking out what they wanted to work on.

Below are a few pictures of the evening.

Ruth came to the rescue tonight. Sarah had forgotten to leave  diaper for River, River needed to be changed pretty desperately and I had no diapers. I put the word out on the family text and within a few minutes Ruth had driven over with 3 diapers.  We only needed the one and Sarah brought in a replacement for the one we borrowed so will give Ruth back her diapers tomorrow. So thankful for family. Volley ball went well, they stayed until the very end. Rhoda borrowed our two folding tables and chairs from Joan for our Sceggel Christmas.
