Update from Kim
Molly finally had her baby.....!!! Almost 2 weeks late! Baby girl....both
Mom & baby seem to be doing just fine.....
Mattie is due in the next 2-3 weeks....
Congratulations KIM!!! A new little Raven daughter or should I say, new HUGE Raven daughter, look at the length of those legs!
Dr. Hoerr came out this morning to pull teeth, draw blood for coggins tests, ultrasound Zalena and infuse her. First up was LilyPony, yes she had wolf teeth.
She wasn't too happy about the procedure and needed an extra boost of happyshot but was great after that, of course we thought she was going to collapse a few times.
Hadassah was an interesting case.
She also needed more of that happy juice.
Dr. Hoerr got both of the expected upper wolf teeth out, then went to remove the teeth brace and saw a wolf tooth on the bottom jaw.
Below isn't the best picture but notice how there is a small tooth up against the first lower tooth. That is a very rare lower wolf tooth.
Once that was out, he felt on the gum line of the other side and sure enough there was one growing there also. That one had to be surgically removed, it had not yet erupted. If the wolf teeth are not removed before putting a bit in a horses mouth it can and most likely will cause trouble. Each time the metal hits the tooth it is like a shock goes right into the brain. This is why a lot of horses will head toss under saddle. In fact if the wolf teeth are removed later in training it is almost too late, the horse makes head tossing a habit to get away from expected pain.
Diane arrived just in time to help with Zalena's infusion. We will wait 16 days, then have Dr. Hoerr back out for another ultrasound, this time praying for a pregnancy!
Diane had driven over in her new golf cart. When she went to get back on it to go home, both dogs were going crazy trying to get up under the dash.
A mouse was hiding under it, Diane lifted that part, the mouse jumped on Emma's head, ran down her neck over her back and under my golf cart. Hope it didn't climb up into mine. We headed over to moms and decided to have a race to see which cart is faster.
Not to brag or anything but my old dirty cart is much faster than her nice new clean one unless she chooses to go backward, then watch out, hers is much faster than mine.
By the time we arrived at mom's, Rhonda had just pulled in with some batting she found at a garage sale for 75 cents.
Mom quilts at church every Thursday morning and those quilting ladies can always use more batting.
Rhonda wanted us to go through a box of dog and cat toys just as Rachel drove by on the Kabota. There is not a lot of peace and quiet around here.
Rachel wanted to get her paddock cleaned up, her horses were in the field so we jumped on the golf carts and drove over to get a few pictures. Sunny is always the most photogenic.
but we were really there to get pictures of Onyx, Sandy's son by Raven.
Just look at the movement on that boy!
The rest of the pictures will be placed on the horsemeister website. Check them out this boy is going to be amazing.
When I arrived back at the farm, there is Ribbon looking like a beached whale, wallowing in the straw.
Of course I had to go over to make sure she was ok.
She immediately comes over to be let out. She is still in season and was covered this morning.
Steven arrived to give lessons. He uses Ella and it is amazing how well she behaves under his eye.
And now for the update we have been waiting for:
I just heard from the U of I. They had some wonderful news for me!
Shadow is doing "quiet well". They walked her down to the scale (which is a decent distance for someone just starting to walking...). She was feeling a little frisky the Dr. said and kicked up her heels a little! This is just tremendous news. They are very pleased with her progress/recovery.
Airiah is producing milk!!! This also is tremendous news. They tried putting them together again, but still no luck. It isn't as bad as it was, but still not bonding like they were hoping. BUT their plan tomorrow is to heavily sedate her and get Shadow latched on.
They are going to attempt to get Shadow and Airiah to bond for a couple more days. If still no luck, then they will be coming home.
If nothing else, they are going to start "milking" Airiah tomorrow to get her use to being "handled".
I have to say, this has been a very long week. Thank you, more times than I can say for all your prayers and support. We are so grateful.
