Zalena's Colt

Update:  This colt just sold!
I had a surprise waiting for me this morning. Zalena gave birth this morning to a tall, long legged colt by Valiant.
I checked her udder last night and there was no waxing at all. She wasn't due for 20 more days and the weather was perfect so she was left out in the pasture. The clean full of wonderful grass pasture, a perfect place for an experienced mare to deliver. When I went out to check on her the colt was already standing and had nursed but was still very wet. His cord needed iodining as it too was very wet. This colt looked to be just a couple hours old. They were brought inside and his cord iodined. It is going to be really hot today so the air conditioner was turned on in the barn.  Anna and the girls came over to help get a few pictures of him.

Zalena is such a special mare. Her foals by Valiant are always fancy fancy fancy. We have been wanting to keep a filly out of Zalena by Valiant and she keeps having colts. Oh well maybe next year.
How pleased I am. A healthy Friesian colt with NO loss of sleep. This is our 15th live foal this year and we still have 5 to go.
