Rosaleigh's Filly by Evan

Last night Mike, Diane and Shannon brought Rosaleigh and her brand new filly by Evan home from Middle Grove. Below are just 2 pictures but we will for sure be getting better pictures as soon as it dries up around here.

She is a spunky filly, strong and full of energy.  Her mom on the other hand was in trouble. We are not sure why she retained her placenta. She didn't retain it last year when she gave birth to her colt by Evan but this year she delivered 16 days early and a filly instead of a colt and the other reason may be she delivered at Middle Grove. She could have been so worried about keeping the other mares away from her foal she never settled down and delivered it. Rosaleigh was given a shot of Oxytocin to start contractions then Shannon twisted and twisted the placenta until it finally started loosening up and falling out about 10:40 pm. Our Sunday was such a long exhausting day but it ended well.
Sunday morning started by me waking up and realizing I was going to have to drive to a store to pick up 210 Styrofoam bowls for the strawberries, lettuce and chicken salad. I ran to Kroger at 6:00 am and wouldn't you know they were on sale.  Mark, mom and I got to church around 8:30 am and went right to work preparing lunch. We had lots of help arrive and needed each one. THANK YOU to ALL who helped. It is a big job but such a blessing that everyone pitches in to help.  We made one mistake, forgot to put forks on the trays but in my defense that was not on the notes. I was just suppose to remember that. Joan was the person that remembered but by the time she did lunch was just about over. Oh well everyone survived without a fork and it made less dishes to wash.
After church people started arriving for Luke's graduation party, a trail ride, lots of volleyball, bags, trampoline fun, spike ball, pony rides, and of course food. Rachel provided lots of pizza, fresh fruit, chips and amazing cake. The party didn't start until 4:30 pm which gave Karin time to train 3 of the foals. She wanted to take Jewel out so her filly could learn to cross the creek and keep up during trail rides. Jewel hasn't been ridden in a couple years but Karin reported she didn't put a hoof wrong.  Karin got Nolan to ride Galena and Shannon (here to visit her filly Ella) to ride Ayanna.

The hardest part of a trail ride with foals is getting them past Valiant's field. For some reason he terrifies them as he comes galloping up to the fence and they usually end up turning around and running for home.
If you would like to see the rest of the trail ride pictures click HERE.  The riders made it back just before the pizza arrived at the playground.

If you would like to see the rest of the pictures of the picnic click HERE. Shannon (Hadassah's filly's owner who was here to visit her filly) found out her flight had been cancelled. Shannon is a vet that lives in New Mexico with her husband and their 13 year old son.  Mike and Diane were heading to Middle Grove to pick up Bunni and asked Shannon if she would like to go along.
They got out there and took the jeep around the property and then came the big surprise. Diane called to report that Shannon (the guest from New Mexico) saw that we had a new filly out at Middle Grove. and then asked, "which mare was due?"  I knew it had to be Rosaleigh that delivered  and sure enough that was exactly the mare. She was not due until June 6th, 2018 and was on the schedule to be picked up Monday (today)  I guess we left this one a little late. Not only did Shannon find the filly she also discovered that Rosaleigh had retained her placenta. They arrived back with her around 9:20 pm. Dr. Hoerr was called and since he was coming early in the morning,  he told us what to do, we did it and by 11:00 pm I was more than ready for bed.
We had a storm come through last night that gave us a half inch of rain. we were thrilled as everything is pretty dry but then the rain started back up just about the time we were heading out to walk this morning. We walked anyway over to the barn to see Rosaleigh and her new filly. Everyone agreed that she really is beautiful. As Dr. Hoerr was scheduled I needed to bring in Galena, Drifter, Marika, Rosalie and Lola for their ultrasounds and their foal's coggins tests.  By this time the rain was pouring down. When Dr. Hoerr arrived both of us had the same thankful reaction to the rain. It doesn't matter that we were soaked bringing in mares and equipment we really did need this rain. The results of the ultrasound were fantastic.  We are thrilled to announce Galena is PREGNANT and due April 17th, 2019, Lola is PREGNANT and due April 12th, 2019,  Rosalie is PREGNANT and also due April 12th, 2019 and Marika is PREGNANT and due April 16th, 2019. Dr. Hoerr remarked, "your stallions are sure not shooting blanks!" Every mare covered so far have settled on the first try. That is pretty unusual and we are thankful.
