Anna surprised me this morning with 2 pairs of shoes, one of barn work and one for walking. Both fit well. I had to wear a pair over to mom's to show her and pick up my big pan. That had been left at mom's when making crock pot lasagna for the Meister Company Christmas party. Joan was staying at mom's this morning and was teaching Faith, Mackenson and Berlica. Berlica was given a $20.00 reward for finding that battery charger, light and radio thing.
Joan told the story of how that came to be. Berlica saw this near the mailboxes by the driveway.
It had a name on it, in the picture the towel is covering up the name. It had not been on the ground very long as it was not at all dirty. Joan posted a picture of it on the Hanna City Happenings Facebook page. On Sunday a man messaged her that he thought it was his employee's and gave her the right name but right after that the employee, the one with the right name, saw the posting and messaged her that it was his. Now for the crazy part of the story. He actually lost it in October and NEVER drove down our road. So when he lost it who ever found it first, over 2 months ago, must have kept it and lost it again on Saturday. Amazing how the real owner got it back. He was happy and he sure made Berlica happy by giving her a reward. Mark got home from work around 11:30 and went to work making sure we had a way to change a tire on both the trailer and the truck. We pulled out at 12:20 pm and headed for Cornell college in Mount Vernon, IA. When we left Hanna City was having a cold rain in 42 degree temperature. As we drove West the sun came out and the temperature climbed to 55 degrees. Rain started back up as we got close to the college at 3:00 pm and when we arrived the tornado sirens were going off. We were ushered into a downstairs hallway of the gym. They had 2 tornados touch down. Mark and I snuck out the back door to take a picture but we could only see one part and not sure if those clouds were part of it. It was hailing out so we didn't go out very far.
Around 3:30 pm we were allowed to start loading the tiles.
The ladies volley ball team helped get them all loaded.
By the time all of the tiles were loaded the back of the truck was completely full as was the horse trailer and even some were put in the back seat of the truck. By the time we were ready to pull out the sun was out.
We drove until 5:30 pm then stopped for supper at the I 80 Kitchen. That is a huge truck stop with a nice buffet. If you don't want to eat at the restaurant they have all kinds of fast food places in that building also. I noticed Taco Bell and Wendy's but there were more. The food was hot and delicious the buffet was $16.00 a person. We arrived home by 7:30 pm. One interesting thing to note was traffic in Illinois was very light on the way there but as soon as we hit Iowa I 80 was crowded with semi's cars and pickup trucks. We found the same traffic pattern on the way home. I 80 was bumper to bumper heading home but as soon as we crossed the Mississippi the traffic was light. Probably because gas prices were about a dollar more a gallon. When we left Hanna City, Casey's gas was priced at $3.69 a gallon. As soon as we crossed the border we saw gas for $2.69. When we got home the truck and trailer were just left up at the indoor arena and will be unloaded another day.
