Made It Down

We left yesterday around 6:00 pm and drove all night just stopping twice for gas. Of course we stopped at a Waffle House for breakfast, that is tradition! The police and guards were at Check Point Charlie just before heading unto the island.

We thought we may be able to go the back way but there was no chance so we turned around went to City Hall and picked up our pass to get in. The last renters had left in a hurry leaving a good amount of sand inside along with food in the fridge. No cleaning people could get in so we went right to work doing laundry and cleaning. The laundry was kept going all day and we are very thankful Taunya has her own washer and dryer in her condo. Abe and Zion had fun playing in the pool and we took breaks to cool down in the cool refreshing water.

Rhoda and Sarah went to Walmart for supplies while Amy, Taunya and I stayed the pool and watched the kids. The beach is empty, beautiful white sands freshly groomed, and yet no one is allowed on the beach. They 'said' it was because of debris but there is NONE.

We saw the dolphins fishing close to shore and got a few pictures as we were letting the kids play in the sand near the condo.

There is a lot of damage to many of the buildings but all of the family condo's came through Hurricane Sally just fine. Diane's condo association has lots of colorful tarps as a lot of the units lost shingles.
It was a beautiful warm sunny day and the Gulf Shores Air patrol was out keeping watch over the buildings.
We had bbq ribs, mashed potatoes, salad and then fresh baked cookies and ice cream for dessert. The food tasted great after all of our labor today. Mom, Joan, kids and Aunt Jinnie should be arriving soon but we are too tired to stay up and wait.  We are all heading to bed right now. It has been a long day yesterday, long night last night and now a long busy day hiking up and down the 32 steps into Ben and Taunya's condo.
