The Foals

Yesterday after church Mark and I drove to the farm, me to check Ribbon and Mark to load up both of the propane tanks which were both empty. No heat in the office again but the water is turned off so hopefully it won't be so cold that the toilet freezes before we replace the tanks.
All 6 foals are now in the breeding shed paddocks with the dividing gate opened and when we got there they were all up in the small front one. Trying to tell them apart is pretty funny. Ciera and Valiant are pretty easy they both come and hang their heads over. Evan looks like Valiant but isn't as friendly. Trying to figure out which one is Wanda and which one is Chloe is difficult, one has a red halter and one has a green halter but they are a moving around so much trying to share in grain I never was sure which was which. I even looked at the legs thinking "well I know Wanda has more feathers than Chloe but both babies had an abundance. Steven helped put the halters on, I'll see if he can remember which filly has what color. Rachel's Shadow is the 6th one and he has a red halter on and will also come stand to be petted.
Mike came over and was moving Lily and Sangria out of the Friesian paddock into the middle paddock so Wynne could go in with Samantha and Ylse when Wynne sees the gate open runs out and over to Raven, starts backing into his gate squirting, Raven is so excited he tries to breed her through the gate. He thinks she is LOVELY!
The vet is coming today, I'm not sure if they are sending Dr. Hoerr or Dr. Palin but we have 17 horses for coggins, 3 for sonagrams, Ribbon to check, Samantha to do a progesterone test and I want them to look at Lily's hernia and tell me what to do before she delivers. Lily is heavy in foal due in April and has a hernia from her colic surgery and NO we didn't breed her after the surgery, she was bred on her foal heat after delivering Ciera and didn't colic until May 23rd. The doctors all said, she won't keep the pregnancy, the stress of surgery will cause her to absorb the embryo or abort. It is very obvious she kept the pregnancy.
We are having coggins drawn on any of the horses that are due in Feb or March.
Velvet, Clara, Sangria, Lily, W Sally, BigSally, Paris, Mika, Ribbon, Bunni, Izadora, Valiant, Ciera, & Evan for us and Shadow, Sunny & Sandy for Rachel.
Should be a busy day, Hopefully Steven can come help, an extra hand is so valuable moving horses around.
