Emma woke me last night before midnight with the first storm. There wasn't a lot of loud thunder but the noise of this thunder was a constant rumble along with continuous flashes of lightning. That storm moved off without dumping much or any rain but when the second storm hit around midnight the rumble of thunder turned into explosive BOOMS and extremely loud claps of thunder and the lightning intensified until it was lighting the place up brilliantly over and over. The wind gusts were blowing Emma's dog door wide open over and over while the rain came down and inside the house through the dog door. As soon as it was light enough to see outside we started discovering trees down.
The people that came to pick up Galena were shocked at how violent the storm was and only in the morning did I remember to tell them about the storm shelter. Galena loaded up quietly and left for her new home around 6:00 am. When I got back inside Mark reported that there were many many limbs down at mom's and the drives were impassable. He actually got the drive going to the main road cleared before the truck and trailer left with Galena but was too tired to start on mom's. I took pictures and sent a group text to everyone out here that we needed help
and wow did help arrive.
They all thought they were done by 10:30 am except the limbs kept falling so people kept working. If you would like to see the storm damage and clean up pictures click
HERE. Rosaleigh and her colt were put out in the field this morning while it was still cool. I took some pictures for the website, he is 2 days old in them.
Karin arrived with a big group to go out riding this morning. She needed 8 mares so the 6 riding horses got to go along with Lily, her filly and Lola and her colt. They had 10 horses going on these trails.
Karin reported the they got a little spooked out as there were so many big trees partially down, hung up on other trees and the vibrations of the horses hooves hitting the ground started the limbs cracking. They were glad to get back up the hill and out of the woods.
I left for Aldi in Pekin to pick up some groceries for our Sunday supper which will be a picnic at the playground IF the rain holds off. We ordered 96 pieces of fried chicken from Kroger along with 20 Chicken strips as those were on sale this week. When I got home from Aldi, Anna was here with Taegan and Kensley so they helped bring in the groceries.
The apartment booked again for tonight so Anna came over early to get it ready for the next guests.
Our internet was down all day but Ruth and Fedi's power was out all day. I'm glad we still had power. Daniel's family arrived at Diane's around 5:30 pm. Diane made supper then invited everyone out here over to her house for dessert. We stayed visiting until almost dark then I had to leave to bring Rosaleigh and her colt into the indoor arena for the night. More storms are expected. I also showed the new airbnb guests where the storm shelter is and left the garage lights on for them just in case they need to leave the apartment in a hurry. They said that there phones would alert them.
