Car Wash

I was out at 5:00 am checking Rosaleigh and her new colt then teased and covered Bella the outside mare. Right after the walk Galena was loaded up and taken to Hoerr Vet clinic in Morton, IL for another ultrasound, her health check and her shots. I wanted to make sure she was still pregnant before her journey to Arkansas Saturday. Dr. Hoerr was busy fixing a broken leg on a goat when we arrived so Chris had me put her right in the stocks to wait.

Dr. Hoerr had no problem finding this almost 4 month old embryo.
When I got back the trail riders were just coming back from a very successful ride.
As soon as the horses were put away Karin helped get the FSX trailer hooked up to the skid steer and that was hauled over to Joan's house for the car wash. The kids there were washing cars for a fund raiser for VBS and were willing to wash the trailer too.
The trailer will just stay there now as Joan has it rented and the people renting it pick it up and drop it off at her house. I spent the rest of the morning working with Rosaleigh, she had retained her placenta from last night but by 12:30 pm, about 12 hours after giving birth she finally released it. That was checked over and buried. I think it came out without any tears but it is easy to miss a small tear so will need to keep checking her. She was a little colicky so once the placenta was out she was given 5 ccs of banamine under her tongue just enough to take the edge off. The water buckets were filled and another square bale brought inside then the stalls sprayed down for flies. Sure hope this new spray works. The farrier was supposed to come this afternoon for Galena but he ended up delayed and didn't arrive until 6:40 pm. Galena quietly picked up each hoof when asked and stood perfectly still for him. The farrier was impressed with how well this big mare stood. The 3 mares and 3 foals in Ribbon's old paddock were moved into the middle paddock so this evening Mark could work on cleaning that out . He worked until sunset which was a beautiful dark pink. I tried to get a picture of the sunset and the Mark spreading manure in the field with my phone but it was getting too dark.
Before I headed in I made a last check on the pond pasture mares to make sure they were still ok with their round bale. There are now 5 mares and 5 foals sharing 2 bales so I do not want them to run out.
Hadassah came up first followed by Lilly, then Jewel, Madiera was 4th and Tatiana last. Lily, Jury, Hadassah,  and Tatiana all have a vet appointment next Thursday for ultrasounds and the pregnant mares will then get to go out to Middle Grove.  Lola and Jewel will need to wait for the next appointment and Madiera still needs to be covered. She hasn't shown a foal heat yet. It was 91 degrees today and the heat is climbing. That new little one is not going to be out any time soon unless someone comes to help early morning. These black babies soak up the sunshine and get over heated very quickly.  We missed VBS tonight, just didn't stop working in time. I'll have to make time tomorrow to listen.
