We had quite a storm this morning dumping a lot of rain quickly but by walking time it was over. Mom felt well enough to walk almost to the barn, Diane's lane and then home. We all quit after one round. Mom and I left at 8:20 am for the Berean office. If you would like to read about our morning there click HERE. We left there around 10:30 am and on the way home Emma from Hoerr Vet Clinic called to report Dr. Hoerr was in Hanna City and going to be headed our way next. It was raining pretty hard on our way home but had slowed down some when I dropped off mom. I quickly changed into barn clothes but forgot to change my tennis shoes which are now ruined as the next job was to slop through mud and manure to start bringing the mares in. Hadassah, Jewel, Tori, Tatiana and their foals were put in the indoor arena. Madiera, her colt, Sheena, her filly, Easter Lilly and Lacy were brought into stalls. The foals in the indoor arena were having a ball galloping around making dust and dragging stuff out into the middle of the arena. The hose was brought out to water the arena and while doing that the horses were also hosed off. The rain stopped and the sun came out which made the arena HOT. The transport company arrived to pick up Josiah. He was taken out of the paddock and walked straight into the trailer then stood there quietly while he was tied up and the trailer door shut. The driver was VERY impressed. He was a little unsure of how long it would take to load up a yearling and a little worried about how he would travel. While waiting for Dr. Hoerr to arrive I made a short video of opening the Exiss trailer for a lady from California that wanted to see how the ramp worked.
Dr. Hoerr arrived before 2:00 pm and started with the 4 mares in the the arena. Hadassah was first and she was confirmed in foal, Hadassah was bred to Evan and is due June 7th, 2021. Jewel was next she too was confirmed in foal and she to was bred to Evan and is due June 6th, 2021. Tatiana was next and we are pleased to announce that she is pregnant. She was bred to Valiant and is due June 12th, 2021. Tori was also confirmed in foal. She was bred to Evan and is due June 15th, 2021. Next we moved to the stalls. Madiera was confirmed in foal, bred to Evan and is due June 12th, 2021. Sheena was open. I only got her covered once so will have to get her bred after we get back from vacation. Lacy the outside mare was pregnant but in the process of losing the embryo. This mare gets pregnant, she just can't keep the pregnancy. Her owner was called and will be picking her up in a couple days. Easter Lilly was the last mare sonagrammed and she was confirmed in foal. She was bred to Valiant and is due June 9th, 2021. Thankful to have very fertile stallions! We still have 2 mares to breed, Sheena who will be bred to Valiant and Rosaleigh who will be bred to Evan. Next Dr. Hoerr drove to the cabin field to check out Ripper. He found an abscess on his left front hoof and cleaned it out. Jackie, Ripper's owner came to help, we tried to soak his hoof in a bucket of iodine water but Ripper kept dumping the bucket. We are going to try again tomorrow. I was going to start hauling to Middle Grove but another big storm came rolling in. Instead of loading the horses into the trailer they were all put back in paddocks and of course I was getting soaked while doing that job.
After supper the rain stopped and we got Bella covered by Valiant then a bale moved into the far paddock. The indoor arena is trashed, literally, with trash scattered all around from those foals emptying the garbage then dragging it all over the arena. There are a lot of piles of manure to clean up in there and in the stalls. The clean up will have to wait. I'm filthy, my shoes are ruined and I'm mud splattered from my feet up to my face and should jump in the shower but am almost too tired to make the effort.
