Dr. Hoerr decided to get the blood drawn first for all the coggins tests. Zoey was easy, all black and a purebred Friesian.
Walter was a little harder, he has 3 white hairs on the middle of his forehead
but when he reached Winston it was time consuming drawing all the white markings. I made sure he drew in the heart, or at least as much as the paper allowed. All three foals were very well behaved when Dr. Hoerr drew their blood. They stood quietly even for the needle prick. Friesians and Friesian crosses are just a wonderful breed with sweet quiet dispositions. Next up was Eliza. I had been very worried about her Friday and Saturday trying to hand feed her grain. Sunday she was finally hungry so what ever she had we wanted to make sure it didn't affect her pregnancy. Thank goodness Dr. Hoerr was able to reach in, feel the foal and know it was alive by it moving against his hand.
Her teeth were also in good shape and didn't need floating. Ribbon was next on the list. Her teeth were also in good shape. She is gaining weight but believe it or not we consider her still a bit thin. She needs to gain back all the weight she lost nursing that big filly of hers before sending her back out to Middle Grove. She is enjoying the extra attention and food while here.
The last job was to geld Ripper. Dr. Hoerr sedated him then laid him down against the wall, holding him up with a straw bale while he did the procedure.
Once he had both testicles removed Dr. Hoerr moved to the other end and poor Ripper got his wolf teeth extracted. This boy is going to be sore at both ends for a day or two.
Anna arrived with the girls just as Dr. Hoerr was finishing up so we loaded up and took the golf cart over to the playground. The day was beautiful sunny and warm and we spent 2 hours playing there. Mom came out to visit a bit. By 2:00 pm the girls were getting tired and brought in for a nap. As soon as they were fast asleep Diane arrived with Crew. He had just woken up from his nap. Too bad they would have loved to play together. Crew still had fun here even though his cousins were sleeping.
After dinner Mark and I went for a walk, stopping first to grain the weanlings, then to check on Ripper and finally to deliver mom's mail before heading out to the fields. We are going to hit the sack early tonight, that playing outside with the grand daughters is exhausting.
