The Clean Spring
This afternoon Joan took us up a mountain where a spring of cool clean water comes flowing out forming a nice little pond before heading down the mountain.
Behind the spring were beautiful rolling hills of closely cropped grass with livestock dotting the fields looking just like the hills in the movie The Sound of Music. Each adult animal was tethered by a rope while the babies were free. The first baby we met was right next to the spring, a baby burro.
Most of us enjoyed swimming in the cool water. A Haitian lady came down to wash her clothing while we were lazing about on rafts.
Soon the schools let out and the children, then workers started making their way down to the water to wash. Below is a man taking a bath, notice Rhoda's reaction.
At that point we decided to hike up to the top of the hill checking out the livestock on the way. We came upon a precious newborn lamb.
A little farther up the hill was a mare and foal and a bull.
At the top of the hill I snapped this picture of the Sauders and Makenson.
When we turned to go back down the hill we saw the farmers were starting to bring their cows to the spring for a drink of water. We watched this cow head right over to where the water was coming in under a rock, start to drink and then...
up went the tail and we all went "eewwwe."
We decided right then we were done swimming and headed back. The Haitian vendors were bringing their wares for us to look at and buy at 3:30 and we needed to leave anyway. Amy, Diane, Rachel and I made all of the vendors happy by buying something from each one of them.
There was one vendor I just didn't think would sell a single item and yet even then Diane found something. Check out the purse below, she bought it to use to bring back all of the other stuff.
She is not quite sure what to do with it later.
The lobster man was waiting at the gate when we arrived home and tonight we feasted on 17 pounds of lobster, 32 tails.
We had to rush dinner, we needed to leave for church at 6:30pm.
