Packing for Haiti
The pictures below were taken yesterday by Mike. They are of Rhoda riding Lola on the Middle Grove trails.
Today was suppose to be the day set aside to pack for our trip to Haiti. Before packing can be started something else very important must be done called laundry. Either that or shopping for clothes and believe me laundry is easier than shopping. There are 10 of us going on this trip and each person is to supply a suitcase big enough to fit 50 pounds of supplies for Haiti. Our personal items for the 8 day trip must fit in a carry-on and a back pack. Diane went to Midwest Food Bank and picked up over 200 pounds of food to take. One of the special food items we are taking was developed by Midwest Food Bank and is called Tender Mercies. That is a small package of dehydrated chicken and rice meal that will feed 4 people by just adding water. We are taking enough of those to feed 2000 Haitians. Joan and Tim gave us a list of items they need and of course mom wants to send over Christmas gifts for all of them. Karen Dunbar donated a big bag of diapers and wipes which I will try to fit in either mine or Rhoda's suitcase. We just got news that Joan and Tim are heading to Port-au-Prince to pick up 1 year old Berlica Rose, their newly adopted daughter, today! How wonderful that we will get to meet her soon along with their new 4 year old son Mackeson. We leave early Saturday morning and won't return until the next Sunday afternoon. Mark is staying home to care for the dogs and horses here, I'll ask Karin to keep an eye on the horses at Middle Grove.
The other thing I really wanted to accomplish today may not happen. The video program I use to render these high definition video clips will not open. Hopefully Philip will come to the rescue.
