Our big news is good news. Tatiana delivered a filly early this morning INSIDE the barn. The weather was again in the 30s with sustained winds around 35 mph and gusts even higher. Thank goodness the rain had stopped. Thankfully Tatiana and Irish were safe in the barn out of the wind and weather. I let the walkers know I was up in the barn so they came my way first.
The filly was easily able to stand and nurse and all looked well so we continued to Joan's house. After the walk I noticed the filly was breathing harder than normal and she had a rattle. Not wanting to take a chance Hoerr Vet clinic was called to schedule Dr. Hoerr to come check her out and we were put on the schedule for later this afternoon. My next call was to Hick's propane as the barn tank was down to 20%. Before leaving home Rosalie and Irish were let out into the field. Rosalie was so excited she didn't know whether to graze, jump or run. She was so funny that I took a video of her shenanigans.
I left then for the Peoria post office to pick up the Berean mail then stopped at mom's house to take some food over. Mom and Joan were taking a stroll down the hallway.
Mom was moving that left foot forward well today.
I left there to head back up to the barn to check on Tatiana and her new filly. The filly was breathing better but once she nursed I heard the same rattle. The propane company was here filling the barn tank so before heading into the barn I grabbed the bill. that came to $719.00. Mark came home to meet the man bringing the floor scrubber and once that was done he was willing to help move a bale in for Valiant.
Check out the precision when he flips the bale. It was perfectly placed.
Mark left to head back down to work just as Amy arrived to work here. Her first chore was to move some hay into the stall for Tatiana.
Once that was done she went into the weanling paddock. Valerie came right up to greet her and check out her barn smells. Amy had just come from Bridlewood where she handled and fed quite a few horses. Valerie was fascinated by those smells. Valerie is in the purple halter below.
The filly in the blue halter is Tessa, out of Rosaleigh by Evan.
She put a lead rope on Indy's colt who is wearing the green halter, he was tied and groomed.
The video below is of Amy grooming them.
Dr. Hoerr arrived about that time but was doing some business in his van so I went back to the golf cart to get my coat. The wind was still very strong and it was only 44 degrees. I was coming through the stall barn and took a picture of the 3 from the hallway.
Dr. Hoerr checked Indy's colt first to make sure he was ready to geld.
All is well so he will be put on the schedule. The filly was next. Below he is listening to her lungs.
Those were clear. Below he is checking out her pallet and that was just fine also.
He believes Tatiana just let her milk down so fast that the filly couldn't swallow it fast enough. I was very thankful for Amy's help today. This evening Mike brought his tractor over and took the stock trailer over to his place for painting. Below he is on the way to the barn to get it.
I was driving to the new barn to check out Mark's scrubber.
He is still over there scrubbing the floors but it IS a lot of floor to scrub.
