India Gone

We had a cold damp morning. Both of my wheelbarrows had flat tires this morning. Probably something to do with the cold but Mark got both of the tires filled. That made my morning chores much easier.  Karin and Kayla arrived to work horses but it was just too sloppy wet in the outdoor rings.  They started out there but pretty quickly came back inside.  The horses were all pretty spooky today. Karin started Tory on the mega phone. She asked Kayla to talk into it as she was riding Oksana while Karin was riding Tory. Tory did much better than expected with that.

After Karin was finished with Tory, she had Kayla take her back outside and bring in Indy.
Below Karin is working with Oksana.
While Karin and Kayla were riding I got the front of the barn all dug out so the doors will shut easily. It was cold enough that we wanted to keep the warmth inside. Each winter we need to do that job before the freeze comes. Each summer the doors are left open and with all the equipment driving in and out, dirt and rocks fill in the track until we cannot shut the doors. Last year I wasn't able to do the job and Rhoda did it. It is a good feeling to be able to work hard without worrying about blowing a gasket like last year.  What a difference a year makes.
Joan helped Mark put the wood splitter on the tractor today.

With the snow yesterday and the cold today it was time to get the wood split for all the wood burning stoves in Meisterville.  Joan had Faith and Berlica helping her split while Mark and Mackenson loaded the skid steer.
Each time the bucket on the skid steer was loaded Mark would drive it over to Joan's to dump.
They worked until around 1:00 pm then took a break for lunch.
After lunch we were in the process of moving bales into the the middle paddock when the owners of India arrived. She loaded up into their trailer without any drama. They also have a gorgeous Raven son out of Eliza and hope to breed him to India when she is old enough. After they pulled away Karin and I got the bales moved and the mares all moved over into the middle paddock. Zalena's colt was a pill not wanting to follow his mother, instead galloping around the yard showing off. He is old enough to wean so we may need to do that soon. The other weanlings were fed then we quit working for the day. Mom went on the Spoon River Drive today stopping at garage sales and visiting the Old School Center. She stopped over for some hot tea and visited a while before heading home.
