Flooding Fields & Ponds

It wasn't raining this Saturday morning. Karin spent the night at mom's house and mom is not home. Karin called to report the cook did not show up there so could she come here.   As soon as our breakfast of pancakes, sausage, eggs and coffee was finished we went out to work the weanlings.  Our airbnb guests were up and out visiting the mares and petting Zalena's colt. After welcoming them I asked if I could take their picture for the blog.
They agreed, visited a bit then went in to get ready to leave for their breakfast in town with some of their family. Everything was drenched by the rain last night.
Karin and I both went into the weanling paddock with their breakfast and one by one took them out and into a stall. Each weanling was given some grain in the stall and handled. Foxy's filly was taken outside first for a round pen lesson.
Kayla arrived at 9:00 am to help with the weanlings.
Ilyssa, Foxy's filly, did so well that Karin decided to take her over to the trailer and ask her to load in the side door but by the time we got to the trailer the rain started coming down.
She was just loaded and unloaded once as I didn't want the camera to get wet but she did very well.  Kayla was put to work with India, Rosaleigh's filly.
She was asked to run her hands down her front legs and touch her all over. India wasn't at all concerned, she was just thrilled there was still grain in the bucket.
Even after the bucket was empty though she stayed with Kayla. The rain stopped at least for the moment so Karin took Inez, Jewel's filly out to the round pen.
This filly wows us with her movement. Jewel throws the most amazing foals and Inez is no exception, Karin kept commenting, "she is just magnificent!"
She was also taken over to the trailer for a loading lesson.
Isla, Madiera's filly was taken out of the stall and tied until we finished with Inez.
We had just taken her to the round pen when the heavens opened and a deluge of rain came so hard and so fast we all got soaked going from the round pen to the indoor arena. The rain was pounding so hard on the metal roof we couldn't hear each other speaking. I snapped the picture below to show how hard the rain was coming down.
Isla didn't care, she stood quietly while we waited.
When the rain lightened up a bit Karin led her back to the stall barn. The ground between the barns had flooded but she walked right through the deep puddles. Isla is the only foal here not sold. I really wanted to get some moving pictures of her but not in the rain. Oh well maybe next week things will dry up and we can make a video of her movement.
By 11:00 am we had puddles and running water everywhere. The pond's siphoning system couldn't keep up and the water ran over the dam doing some damage on the other side.  Mark had been busy stacking wood before the rain started. A sure sign winter is coming.  As the trails were too wet and the rain was continuing all outside work was finished for the day.
The rain gauge was checked but I had forgotten to dump it yesterday and it was holding almost 3 inches of water. That meant we got almost an inch during the night and this morning. That was dumped and by tonight we have almost another inch. That is 4 inches of rain in two days. We are going to have puddles for a while around here.
April the lady that bought Star's colt and Galena's colt sent the email and picture below: We made it home safe and sound. The boys travel like champs  they are such good boys. ❤️❤️
Thanks April

Now we need to speak of addictions. We have all seen how awful people look when they are addicted to something. So this picture popped up and there seems to be one addiction that when people get addicted to it they don't end up looking terrible but actually look better than before. If you don't believe me just check out the picture below:
or ten or more.  By the way I may be able to help that, we still have some foals for sale.
