Greener Grass

Emma was doing a little better this morning, she even tried to wag her tail. She is so pathetic, she lays on our bedroom floor with Darcy's squeaky toy next to her. She was able to get up to go outside and relieve herself but was not interested in a dog biscuit just wanted to lay back down. After the walk though she did take a treat and with each hour that passed felt better. By afternoon I no longer was carrying water to her and by the time Karin came over she got up to greet her.
Ella was out again this morning. She was just hanging around Evan's paddock. Usually we don't worry at all, she doesn't run away, just mows the yard grass for us but today the breeding shed door was open and the grain bins had their lids knocked off. She is so heavy in foal she probably didn't eat too much and there was no manure left inside so she wasn't in there very long. Instead of putting her back in the mare pasture she was put in with Serenity. That paddock is secure enough to keep ponies in but no round bale feeder. Those 2 are now being fed by the wheelbarrow twice a day. Tomorrow I'll get some updated pictures of her. The electric fence was down again in the big field. This time when I restrung it I went all the way around checking for places it could be touching weeds causing it to short out. What ever or who ever ran through it had the water tanks on the wrong side of the fence and even though the fence is laying on the ground the mares would not step over it to drink. They were pretty glad when it was finally up and fixed. After the tanks were filled and the stalls cleaned the back gate was opened. Whitney and Hadassah hear me opening the gate and come walking right into their stalls bringing their fillies behind them. They know the way and know which stall to walk into. Both of these mares were teased, Hadassah is in and probably had been in for a few days. When Emily got home we got her covered and took a few pictures of her filly for the website.

She is 12 days old and still not sold. She is the prettiest filly of the crossbreds this year. Her conformation is perfect, she is pitch black, has amazing movement and will have the mega hair of her sire. She really does look and act like a purebred Friesian but at $4000.00 is just a fraction of the cost. Whitney was also brought out to tease but I did not cover her. She is losing urine when she runs which could be pooling urine which would stop conception. We have the vet coming out on Wednesday so will put her on the schedule. If she is pooling urine Dr. Hoerr can fix it.  While she was out I got a few pictures of her filly too.
 She is all legs!
The mares and fillies were hosed down to cool them off before putting them back in the pasture. This was the first time the fillies were exposed to the hose but both did very well standing quietly while they were thoroughly soaked.
Emily's family are all staying in a cabin at Wildlife Prairie Park tonight so I'm in charge of watching Chloe, her cow who is due to calve anytime. The last heifer we had here to calve needed the calf pulled so I hope she doesn't go into labor until Emily gets back.
Spark and Rhonda are in Colorado, Mike and Diane are on their way to Gulf Shores, Joan just got back from Indiana last night, just in time to take mom and Karin to Beth and Greg's renewal of their vows for the TV show. Rebekah and Jessica were working hard at decorating the place. Rachel was in charge of pictures, Jenny was doing the lunch with help from Molly for 50 people.
