Chloe Has a Boy

We awoke to the promise of rain and within an hour a nice gentle rain started. When we picked mom up for church it was still raining giving the thirsty ground a good soaking. Mom called it the million dollar rain. Exactly what the fields around here needed.
Not sure how long it rained or how much as we no longer have a rain gauge but when we got out of church the sun was peeking through. Church as great, it is just so good to be there. David Obgerfel had the morning service and Greg Rumbold had the afternoon.
After church Hadassah was teased but would not show. This doesn't mean for sure she is out, it was hard to get her to show with her filly by her side on Friday. Tomorrow with Emily's help we will try one more time. Last night Mitchel came to work Valiant then this morning Emily sent a text that they weren't able to work him. He was not right. Today after church he was taken into the stall and his temperature taken. He was normal but I agree with Emily's assessment. He is not acting right. He was left in the stall for the night. When I came out of the barn and was heading to the playground I found Emily's cow Chloe giving birth and unfortunately right in the mud. Mark went to get his boots on to help move the calf into the grassy part of the paddock but before he could get back I had the calf moved.

The miracle of birth just never gets old.
He is a nice strong bull calf. It didn't take him too long to find the milk. Once he had nursed well, they were moved into up into the barn in the stall opposite Valiant. Valiant was very interested in this new strange creature. I came back to the house and jumped in the shower for the second time today. Birth on the farm is not a tidy clean activity. This is the second generation of a calf born here, 2 years ago his mom, Chloe was born here. I'm feeling pretty old. We had a late supper.
