A New Record

Jurista was pulled out and given a quick bath around 7:00 this morning so Emily could run her to Dr. Hoerr's for an ultrasound to prepare for ordering the semen from Michigan. She arrived by 8:00 am and it didn't take long for Dr. Hoerr to call with the bad news that she was going to ovulate today. There was no way to get the semen in time. Diane and I talked it over and decided since we haven't had Jurista long enough to know if she can conceive and once conceive hold the pregnancy we may as well breed her to Valiant this year then if all goes well try for a purebred Andalusian foal next year out of her. Emily brought her home and had Valiant cover her. Nice to know she will be out tomorrow.
We had 20 volunteers today down at Meister Brothers working for Berean Prison Ministry. Needless to say we were packed in like sardines but the work got done. Bibles mailed, studies processed and ready to take to church for grading plus the new studies stuffed and mailed out. We had a couple strong guys, Matt and Logan that loaded them into Mark's van then went with him to the post office to help unload. Today was Matt's 16th birthday and he spent the morning with us volunteering for the Bible program. He plans on getting his license tomorrow. Below Matt, his sister Megan and Roma are busy opening mail.
Diane and I are frantically entering while Eva Jean and Edie are open more mail.
We had more new volunteers come today. Cheryl brought her dad, Paster Webster from the Smithville Bible church to help out. Rachel and Logan came.
Lisa arrived with a van load of helpers.
Rachel put them all to work in the conference room stuffing boxes.
I drove Matt and Megan back to the farm. Emily had been working with Sherry, the lady that bought Piper. She came all the way from the far away state of Washington to work with Emily and Piper and by the time they were done she was thrilled. So thrilled she gave me a hug! Karin if you had been there you would have thought you stepped into the twilight zone but this was one happy lady. Sherry was able to walk, trot and canter Piper with no problem at all. We think this is a good match, plus Sherry has promised to email pictures of Piper's foal once it is born.
I had to run to Aldi to pick up water softening salt and lots of groceries to fill our empty cupboards. When Mark starts complaining about no food in the house it is past time to go shopping. Not my favorite job at all. Emily had a class this afternoon but when she got home this evening since it wasn't raining decided to work with Valiant.
Mike and Diane walked over just as she was finishing up so Mike hopped on and took him for a spin around the arena.
After Mike was finished Emily took off Valiant's tack and let him have a good roll as a reward for working hard.
His next reward was a nice cooling shower. Emily gave him a bath before putting him back out in the field. Marika was brought inside again and tested. This is the 3rd night she has tested at 250. She did the same thing last year, tested at the higher levels much longer than usual. I'm watching her but do not plan on staying up at the barn tonight. She does not act like she is in any hurry to have this foal and does not look to be in labor.
