Kabur went on the walk but on the last round wanted to ride home. He is an old dog and walks like me, with a limp so the both of us cripples were glad for the golf cart.
After the walk the placenta was buried and the stall all set up for Madiera and her colt for the day. It was too sunny and hot for a black newborn colt. They can't regulate their temperature for about 10 days so we have to keep them out of the hot sun as the black coat soaks up the sun and heat and a foal can become overheated very quickly. The other mares and foals were turned out. They were left out while I posted pictures of Madiera's colt on the website. It wasn't too long after posting that I got a text from Ana, the lady that bought a Raven son out of Eliza in 2013. She wanted to buy him and sent the deposit by paypal. She then sent me the picture of the foal they bought in 2013 all grown up.No wonder she wanted another one. When Mark got home he was willing to fill both of Madiera's water buckets. I watched from the foaling monitor.
We left for church a little early and it was a good thing we did, Farmington road was backed up because of an accident.
I had a surprise at church. Braelyn, Taegan and Kensley arrived with Berlica. Tim Funk had the message on the destruction of Jericho and the faith of Rahab. After church a bunch of us including David and Elisabet, Braelyn, Taegan and Kensely went to Culvers for a late supper. We didn't get home until 10:00 pm and I wanted to put Madiera and her colt out in a paddock as it was cool and we had a breeze. That went well until they walked into the paddock which was dark the colt went running, Madiera running after him. He slid right under the fence into the short shelter paddock. I had to lead Madiera over to that paddock and the entire time she is a nervous wreck as she can't see her colt. Mark got the gate opened and she went running through but took off running for her colt, he ran from her thinking she was dangerous, got to the corner of the paddock and tried to climb through. All the other horses came running up from the pond pasture to see what the commotion was, Madiera is desperatly trying to get between them and her colt all the while the colt is still trying to crawl through the fence. I made it down to them, got the colt out of the fence, calmed him down enough that he would follow me and Madiera followed him. Once he was quiet he realized it was his mom standing next to him and as soon as he started to nurse all was well. What a scare for him, his mom and me. They were left in the short shelter paddock but tomorrow I will move them over to the far paddock. It is larger and safer for young foals. All of this was done in my Sunday clothes so of course I will be doing laundry tomorrow.
