Two Trail Rides

I got news this morning that Zalena had a filly at 4:45 am and all is well.  Her owner will send better pictures later, right now they are going to sleep for about a week.

Above she is about 15 minutes old and has the cord wrapped around her leg, below she is a little more than an hour old and nursing well.
They had been worried that Zalena was going to deliver during that awful cold spell we had only they had it much worse. Where they live it was way below zero for days. they were pleased she waited until it warmed up but were checking on her every night since she started waxing March 3rd, 10 days ago. Zalena is 21 years old. We had a very busy day at the farm. David dropped off Rizzy, Israel and Elisabet around 8:00 am. They were trying to help get the bird out of the chimney. The bird had been in the wood burner but somehow had crawled back up and was stuck.

Right about then our airbnb guest sent a message that a bird had just come down their chimney and was stuck in the pipe. We left our bird and went to get the other out. That one was easy, the starling had already fallen into the wood burner. I put a sheet over it, opened the wood burner door and the bird flew right into the sheet. The guests were impressed until I told them it was the first time I had tried that. It worked so well that I tried it on the house wood burner but that bird flew under the wood burner and took off for the back door with Emma chasing it all the way. I grabbed it when it got up against the window and let it go out the door. About that time Isaiah arrived and I asked if he would help me make a video of Jewel's filly by Evan for a lady that emailed yesterday wanting to see how she moved. He only had a few minutes so the video is very short but shows her movement.

Magda and Karin also arrived and said Israel could go with them on this trail ride.
He rode Cookie, Isaiah rode Mika, Karin rode Sally and Magda rode Missy.

Rizzy got to go too.
There was only one problem on that trail ride. I had put Cookies saddle on and didn't have the girth on the right side attached correctly the saddle came off and Israel with it. As a joke when they got back I asked Israel, "did you fall off?" and was shocked when he told me, "just one time". Then they told me about the saddle and how they told Israel that his grandma punked him. I had been moving bales into the paddocks while they were riding and still needed to throw away the net wrap. Israel drove the golf cart while I held the net wrap all the way to the dumpster and back.
When we got back we picked up another net wrap off the middle paddock bale and again Israel drove to the dumpster and back. He is getting to be a very good driver. When his dad arrived Israel took him for a ride.

Israel and Elisabet played on the big tree limb then Israel played Frisbee with grandpa.

Mark drove to Kelly Seed for rye grass seed to seed the field that was torn up by the heavy machinery. He got it all planted before lunch.
Rhoda brought out Cassie and Lexi to trail ride this afternoon. This time Oksana was used for Rhoda, Cassie rode Mika and Lexi rode Missy.

Rhonda, Andi and Van came with me on the golf cart on the first part of the trail then took Van to see the dinosaur egg. Below we are in the corn field watching for mountain lions.

Van was pleased to lead Cookie around and even sat on her. Van is 3 years old.
When it was time for them to head back Emma came out to see them.
I took them back to Rhonda's house on the golf cart.
Mark was working on moving logs from the field when I got back.
Phil and Anna dropped off the girls so they could go to Gil's tonight. The girls played nicely with the Breyer barn and the Breyer horses.
IF you would like to see the rest of the pictures of our day click HERE.  Mark needed a hair cut before church tomorrow and that got done while the girls were here playing. The floors also got scrubbed today as tomorrow we will have company. It was a long busy day.
