We had a gate come off the hinge and this morning in the rain that was turning to snow that got fixed. Mike came over to tighten the hinges and ended up fixing 3 of the gates. These horses can always find a way to make us work out in the worst of the weather. I was so chilled by the time I came inside the wood burner was fired up and today we had fire and ice.
The walk was cancelled, it was only 33 degrees and the rain had snow and ice mixed in with it AND because of the time change not very light out. I drove to the Peoria post office to pick up the Berean mail and when I got home had to take pictures of the ice covering the trees. There was no sun to make everything sparkle like diamonds but it was still very pretty. Galena had been locked up all day since it was such a cold rain. The thermometer kept hovering between 33 and 34 degrees and the rain just kept coming. We ended up with about an inch. This evening was games at grandma's house at 6:30 and the rain had stopped so before heading over Galena was put into the back field, she practically dragged me over so glad to get outside. Her udder is filling but still not waxing so I felt comfortable leaving her out for the night. Our airbnb guest came out to visit making me just a few minutes late to mom's. Diane won with Rhonda a close second. Ruth told us Fedi said she can't come home if she loses and she really lost big so mom was telling her to just stay the night. We all laughed at that. Mike and Diane checked all the mares at Middle Grove and all are doing fine. He said Lily was standing off by herself so they checked her udder and all is well. I think she is missing Mika and Ayanna. Sangria who used to be her buddy is hanging out with Jury. I'll be bringing lots of mares home when we get back from Gulf Shores the first week of April. Update on Zalena's filly: it's been raining and cold since she was born, so they've been in a (big) stall. But it stopped midday so we took Zalena and the filly for a long walk in the empty field, and they both really enjoyed it! Here is one photo from that walk- still bad lighting,
I'm thankful for the update and pictures. We are so happy for Kres, Zalena's owner. It is such a joy when all goes well.
