We were awakened during the night to lightning and thunder but not a lot of rain. By the time we were up and ready for work the rain had stopped giving us only .3 of an inch. Yes I was disappointed! The fields are so dry. No rain for the walk but Diane quit after the first round to hit a few garage sales. Ruth quit after the first round in order to get to work on time. Mom always quits after the first round, Joan didn't come at all today as the children have co-op leaving Rachel and me for the second round. Guess who grabbed the golf cart and came up with a good excuse why she needed to quit? It wasn't Rachel.
I really did have work waiting. Olivia's bale was getting low and she either had to be moved or a round bale put in. I decided to move Jury and Serenity to the pond pasture and give Olivia the middle paddock at least until this weekend. Emma was grained and thankfully she is no longer calling and her colt has now given up on her answering. She is finally starting to gain the weight back from nursing and weaning. Below she is watching me get her grain ready.
Thankfully the weanlings did not dump their water buckets during the night. This afternoon as the outside work was just about done the light started fading and it became very dark. There was a rumble of thunder and by the time I got back to the house big fat rain drops had started splattering the patio and a cool refreshing breeze started to blow. These big fat rain drops turned into a down pour accompanied by bright flashes and strikes of lighting with huge cracks and booms of thunder sounding almost instantaneously. Mom called about then to wonder why the neighbors were making so much noise! There was no reason to be disappointed now, we got over an inch this afternoon with a promise of more tonight.
Since I was stuck inside it was time to spend money and the afternoon was spent shopping. We now have coming 2 loads of washed, filtered sand to be delivered next week for the new round pen, AND the hotel rooms were reserved for the March show. We will be staying in the same hotel as last year, the Drury Inn and Suites of Springfield which has an indoor pool, a hot tub, free breakfast and free dinner. Let Karin or me know soon if you want us to save you a room or a suite. We have 12 blocked off but have the option of adding more. The rooms are $103.99 plus tax and the suites are $118.99 plus tax. We will be arriving Thursday March 3rd, 2016 and staying Friday March 4th and Saturday night March 5th, 2016. We have a great show planned, I have it on good authority that Jack Sparrow is going to show up and be in this show. Any guesses to what the Friesian group has planned? The riders are already figuring out costumes and which horse they want to ride. Each year we wonder what we could ever do to top the performance and each year these kids come up with something great. We could see another storm coming in from the West, it was so dark that direction even though the sun was setting it was out of sight but lighting up the tips of the clouds to the East.
To my eyes this looks like a galloping steed with his mane flying.
