Today was my day of rest. No real work was done at all. Of course it was -11 this morning with a wind chill of -27 so I didn't even go on the walk. Mark brought in 4 loads of wood on the cart before breakfast.
I stacked inside while he did the outside work. It takes about 4 of those cartfuls to keep both woodburners burning all day and all night. We got up to 0 today. I watched and listened to Jeff Waibel give a talk on Why We Believe God Exists. If you want to watch you need to watch on AC Central, I wasn't able to copy the code for this one but you can listen to it by clicking HERE. It really is worth your time to listening especially if you have someone who believes there is no God. Dan cleaned up and made his song Kingdom Dreamin a little easier to understand. So that was published as Kingdom Dreaming Take 2
The people that bought Irish's first colt by Valiant called today. They are so impressed with him they would like to buy another. They said he was huge! They are going to send pictures and videos but haven't yet. We have changed our herd and not because of wanting to. Below was during one of our performances at the IL Horse Fair.
Left to right: Amy riding Anna who died after a C section. Caleb is riding Zalena who was sold to a lady in Iowa and is now deceased. Nolan is riding Eliza who died suddenly with her 2 week old colt by her side. Jake is riding Oksana who colicked and died last year at Middle Grove. Rhoda is riding Rosalie who thankfully is still living, Anni is riding Ayanna who has a new home out East. Mitchel and Emily are riding Jenis who also has a new home up by Chicago. Karin is riding Indy who just laid down and died at Middle Grove last year the same day as Oksana and Hannah is riding Galena who lives down South with her new owner. Out of all of those wonderful mares we only have Rosalie left. That is why we kept Tessa, Rosaleigh's 2022 filly and Valerie, Lily's 2022 filly and that is why we bought Basilea (barn name Lea) and her 2023 filly Thalia. We also still own Tatiana and Rosaleigh. If Irish has a filly this year we will keep her. Crazy at my age to have to start building the herd again but we have such wonderful stallions it just doesn't make sense not to have nice mares. And just maybe in a year or two my grandchildren will want to start showing these gorgeous horses for us.
