2 New Mares

Ruth, Diane and I walked today. We had a lot to discuss and it was a good walk. Mike left for the racetrack Fairmont Park in Collinsville, IL to pick up the new mare. After the walk I didn't even go home, I went right to the barn to get it ready for our guests coming in today. The bathrooms were checked, those were still clean, the kitchen needed a couple things put away, the game room had a few balls out of place and the gym was organized. I was home by 9:00 am and made us breakfast of bacon, scrambled eggs and cinnamon scones. It was the perfect day to burn the brush pile as there was little to no wind and the grounds were still wet from all the rain and snow.

While he was working on that I moved a bale into Lea and Thalia's paddock.
The guests for the barn arrived around 12:30 pm and they were thrilled with everything. The boys right away started playing basketball while I showed the grandmother where all the bedding was stored. They were ready to start unloading and making themselves at home.
The brush pile wasn't starting very well so Mark got his leaf blower.
That helped a lot and the fire took off.
Lea was interested in watching the fire as she was munching away on the new bale.
The fire got really big and that old moldy sopping wet hay bale to the right of the picture also started on fire.
The video below shows the first starting then burning well, then Mark using the skid steer to push it together and the bale burning.
It was burning down and slowing down when Mark went in to get a shower. Mike pulled up with the horse trailer about then and I was shocked to see not one but TWO horses in the trailer.
Long story but to make it short the vet taking care of the horses was there and recommended him taking both. First to be unloaded was Aiken.

Mike walked her into then around the paddock before letting her go.

When she saw the bale and took a big bite we knew all would be well.
The second mare is a bay mare named Bulu. She is also 6 years old and came right off the track. She still has shoes on so we will need to get a farrier out to remove those shoes.  She seems nice and is for sure tall.

He took her into the paddock and walked her around too. Aiken was so glad to be with her.
Below is a short video of both mares in the paddock.
They settled down to eat so I was free to go. Mark and I left for Mings in Pekin to pick up food tonight for our meal with mom and Karin. That was delicious and plenty for all 4 of us. Karin served us ice cream for dessert which went well with our hot tea.
Our high today was 37 degrees and the brush fire was putting off so much heat we could feel it as we worked outside, that fire felt so good that once we got home tonight we got one going in the living room wood burner.
