Bucking Broncos

Is there a shortage of pumpkin in Peoria?  Yesterday we stopped at Aldi on the way home from church to pick up a couple cans of pumpkin but they were out. Today after picking up the Berean mail from TEMCO I ran to Kroger in Bartonville to pick up the pumpkin and they were out. I ended up driving to the Aldi in Pekin and found plenty of canned pumpkin but they were almost out of evaporated milk and I bought the last 4 cans of that along with 4 cans of pumpkin.  I made 2 pies today, one is for the Berean meal tomorrow and one is to share with Karin when she comes in.
Karin finally came after work, stopped in to tell me about Rosalie before heading out. Rosalie started bucking with her on Saturday and she had to start over with her so today she decided to work with Rosalie first. Rosalie wasn't happy in the indoor all by herself and that may be part of the problem but still she needs to learn to look to Karin for her security. Below are a few pictures of Rosalie being worked.
Rosalie is such an magnificent mare at 17 hands tall, but we think that she is NOT pregnant. She was due in April but she just doesn't look big enough. Dr. Hoerr is coming tomorrow and will ultrasound her. She was standing over by Evan today and when we brought him up she showed a bit but then kicked at him.  Hopefully if she did lose the foal she is still cycling and we can still get her bred this month.
Karin did some round penning first and when she was listening asked her to bow.
To keep her sweet, Karin just asks her to go forward with a loose rein and just sits there as a passenger. Only when she is warmed up and ready for work does Karin take up any contact.

We were very pleased there was no bucking today. She ended on a good note. Ayanna was brought out next. Ayanna happens to be Rosalie's full sister, she is just 3 years older than Rosalie.

Next out was Indy but I had some work inside so missed Karin riding Indy.  She was working with Valiant and a tarp when I got back up to the barn.  She was asking him to sit while she waved the tarp all over him.

He sat until she released him but walking forward.  Valiant doesn't like the tarp so this was a breakthrough with him.
He did very well undersaddle. No bucking for Valiant, he is such a good boy.

Galena was brought out next and she was asked to trot and canter with a loose rein indoors. Today was the first time she cantered indoors as the new sand is deep enough and packed enough that she won't slip.
Galena was sweet today for the usual work, the problem with her came later.
We are discouraged that Oksana is not going to be suitable for vaulting so need to keep trying Galena. Galena does not like anyone sitting on her rear end so today Karin tried that. She was not at all happy.
 Galena started bucking and whirling.
Karin stayed on (Galena is not very athletic) but at this point she needed my help. I led Galena around the arena while Karin stayed on her rear end. After the first lap she was accepting that Karin was going to stay there and by the 3rd lap around the arena was relaxing a bit and walking forward with out the pinning of ears and swishing of her tail.
At that point we quit. Hopefully tomorrow Galena will be more accepting right away. We will need to borrow Joan's girls to start trying her with 2 and 3 at a time. Oksana has the attitude for vaulting but not the big body type we need. Galena has the body type but not the attitude. Oh well maybe we can pray for a miracle.  Karin was given some pumpkin pie as a thankyou for all of her hard work today. Mark tried it for dessert tonight and declared it great.
