Negative 2 degrees and snowing this morning. I walked over to mom's but tromping through the snow with the wind hitting and freezing any exposed skin was so awful we called off the walk. Instead of walking we fed the birds on mom's deck. They were all very hungry and we had all kinds come including blue jays, a red bellied wood pecker, a red headed wood pecker, different kinds of finches and sparrows and of course cardinals.
Mom even let the squirrel eat in peace. It was so cold out and snow covered she felt sorry for it. Molly's job is to chase the squirrel off the deck but not today. Molly doesn't like this extreme cold either and spends very little time outside. Anna stopped in for about a half hour and did some shoveling around the apartment while the girls played inside.
I left to head down to the Peoria post office only to realize at the bottom of the hill in Bartonville, if the girls came over then there must not be school and it must be a holiday and the post office closed. Instead I stopped at Kroger and picked up a coffee cake to serve at Berean tomorrow and just planned on leaving early in the morning to get the mail. BUT the snow just kept coming and coming. By 2:00 pm the black horse mom gave me only had his head and part of his back (he is rearing) sticking out.
The roads became snow packed and dangerous. We ended up calling off Berean for tomorrow, the snow is supposed to continue the rest of the day. It is so cold that the snow isn't heavy, the wind is gusting, blowing it into drifts and closing roads out here. Evan's bale is getting low but it is so cold I didn't want to start the machinery so just put a square bale in his feeder. I'll need to do that for the next few days as the weather isn't going to warm up until the weekend. The pictures from yesterday were downloaded and put on yesterday's blog. Below is a couple pictures taken from inside my house looking out this evening. The snow is piling up and to think the patio is protected. It is much worse out in the wind.
This is the first big snow of the year and it is so cold that no one can go out and enjoy it. Tomorrow the sun is suppose to come out but no enough to warm us up. A VERY nice review came in from the couple that spent a couple nights at the apartment: “Wonderful, roomy, well appointed, cozy, clean and comfortable. Full size kitchen for cooking your own meals, close to a small town for take out, gas, etc., and only 20 minutes to the big city of Peoria. Excellent host, quick responses, easy self check in, and wonderful touches like cuddly soft pillows and blankets for the super comfy couch in the TV room. Did I mention the DELICIOUS cookies that awaited our arrival in a cute gift box? Comfy bed, really nice bathroom/shower, and a wood burning stove. All you need for a perfect quiet getaway. Our dog felt right at home and we loved saying hello to the horses each day! Would stay again and have already recommended to a friend.”

We had such a wonderful stay at your lil' slice of heaven!! Thanks so much for sharing your lovely rental with us and I (a fellow horse girl) loved giving some kisses to our "neeeiiigh-bors". Ha Ha. What a lovely site so see the young 'uns out the kitchen window! The delicious cookies were a lovely touch and didn't last long. :-) I could honestly live in that apartment! I have already recommended you to a friend who inquired about our stay. All the best for a healthy and happy 2021. Cheers, Linda & Wade
