Training Mares

We had another below zero morning, this time it was just -3. I went straight up to check waterers but all were open. Mike drove to Middle Grove early this morning to check on the waterer out there and sent back pictures. The horses were all content on the hillside soaking up the sun even though it was around 0 by then.
Mike noticed Missy down by the road and went to check why she was there and was thrilled to discover that the horses had found a creek, cracked open the ice and had made a drinking hole.
He took a picture of their work. Amazing to think these horses have learned how to get to water.
The waterer at Middle Grove was working fine but there weren't a lot of hoof prints in the snow. I think they like the fresh water from the creek better.
Right after our COLD walk I left driving to Peoria to fill 2 of the propane tanks at Suburban Gas company and from there drove to Sam's Club for groceries.
As soon as I got home I started a big pot of chili for lunch. We needed something spicy hot to warm up. As that was simmering on the stove the hoses were taken out of the basement and hauled to the indoor arena. The truck was moved out and the arena watered. That job sounds so easy but it is not. I usually get my shoes soaked and today even my coat. By the time that job was over I was more than ready to sit by the fire eating a bowl of hot chili.
Rhonda walked over bringing a loaf of home baked bread and jam. Thanks Rhonda.
Karin arrived after work to start training the canter horses. The 4 mares worked today were Jenis, Zalena, Indy and Oksana. These 4 will be doing quite a bit of cantering during the play they will be performing at the IL Horse Fair.  As soon as she let them loose in the arena Jenis has to pick a good place to roll. She is so graceful as she drops to the ground.

Oksana was the first mare worked.

This evening Mark drove mom and I to church. Diane had to run an errand before church so after church took mom home. Tim Roecker had the message.
