Another Night of Foal Watch

Why can't they make an accurate test that would tell us 100% if a mare is going to foal? Emma was waxed over this morning.
Yesterday she was by herself in the field more than usual. All signs point to a new baby soon. It was raining and the other 2 foals are still too young to be put out in the field. It is extremely important to keep the umbilical cord dry until it is all dried up and ready to fall off. We had an all day rain on Friday, and evening rain on Saturday and woke up to a light rain falling this morning. That meant one mare and foal pair would have to be moved out of a foaling stall and put into a smaller stall. Zalena's filly is 1 day older than Eliza's colt so they were the pair moved out of the deluxe double stall into a single. Zalena's old stall was cleaned and fresh bedding added before moving Eliza and her colt over. Then it was time to strip Eliza's stall to prepare for a new baby. Once that stall was prepared Emma was brought inside. She was very restless and showed signs of first stage labor. Karin was watching on the monitor at her home in Maquon and sent through at text that she felt Emma was going to deliver today. Since I missed last Sunday she offered to come for foal watch. Thanks Karin.
I would have missed not going to church, not just for the awesome sermons but the people, our loving wonderful church family. Tim Funk had the morning service while Tim Roecker had the afternoon.
We stopped and picked up a couple tomato plants on the way home arriving at 2:20 pm which gave me 10 minutes to change, sweep up the barn aisle, and fill water buckets before our company arrived. These people had driven down from Rockford, IL to visit their new colt. They are the ones that bought Eliza's colt right after birth. They were thrilled with him.

He is just so friendly that when the stall door is opened he comes out to visit. After they left Rhonda's family came over to see the foals. Karin was good enough to show them both babies. Mark prepared the garden and planted the 2 tomato plants this afternoon then power washed the very muddy golf cart. Karin worked 4 mares then tested Emma. She was between 200 and 250.
They had a good group show up for volley ball but I didn't take the camera it was drizzling rain and a storm was threatening. Instead Oksana was brought out, teased and covered by Evan. The storm came rolling through around 7:00 pm. Emma was tested and she is now at exactly 250 so is making progress but not quick enough. I was hoping to get a good night sleep tonight. Becca is staying and will help take a turn staying up. Am I ready for another? Praying all goes well and we have a healthy foal to announce tomorrow morning.
