Weaning Day for 4

It was hard to wake up this morning but after a couple cups of coffee I was ready for the day. The apartment booked during the night for today and the next 4 days.  The current guests who had been here for the last 5 days had two show dogs with them. They sent a message that they were out around just after 7:00 am. I went up to check and swept up lots of dog hair.

I also got the laundry going.
David and Steph's family came over for breakfast at 7:30 am. I served just out of the oven biscuits, scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon. I had no fruit or orange juice and was going to sneak in mom's house and borrow some but David came over early for coffee and told me it wasn't necessary. I needed to be at mom's at 8:00 am. Mom and Karin were having breakfast when I arrived but Aunt Jinnie was still asleep. Not long after getting there Israel knocked on the door and wanted to show me his 'motor bike' He put a water bottle on the bike tire so it sounded like a motorbike.

Ruth and Nancy stopped in just as we were finishing up lunch. Ruth took Nancy camping at Jubilee with the church campout. Nancy had a lot of fun and even cooked her own marshmallow. Not long after that Karin arrived with a tenderloin and fries from Bs then Spark arrived and helped her eat it. We had 7 around the table.  I left as I needed to get 3 bales moved. Once those paddocks were prepared Mark came up to help move them.
It is excellent hay.
Fine stemmed and very green. The horses will do great on it this winter.
At 3:30 pm 4 small halters and 4 extra large halters with 4 lead ropes and a bucket of grain were loaded into Mike's big diesel truck, the 4 horse stock attached and off we were to pick up 4 weanlings. We are never sure how that is going to go. When we arrived the truck and trailer were taken to the big field, the horses were in sight. Irish and Madiera both came right to us so those were haltered and led to the trailer with their colts following. The mares were loaded and as they were getting into the trailer they were making noise so the colts took off running.
Madiera's colt is the black and Irish's colt is the black and white.
That is Valerie (Lily's 2022 filly) next to Irish's colt in the picture below.
Irisn's colt ran over to Madiera's colt.
They ran around the trailer to the other side.
But both were good when Mike walked up to them.
Madiera's colt loaded right up, Irish's colt did not. We waited and waited, finally put a halter on his and forced him into the trailer. Then started the long hike back up to get two more mares.  The second time Rosaleigh and Tatiana came right up so those two were led back down to the trailer.  We were quite far away from the herd but most of them followed us down to the trailer. This time it didn't take near as long. Rosaleigh and her colt were loaded first then Tatiana and her filly.
The 4 foals were halted in the trailer, tied and their dams were led back out of the trailer. We left Middle Grove with Irish's colt, Madiera's colt, Tatiana's filly and Rosaleigh's filly. As soon as we got home I grabbed 4 tubes of Quest plus and each was given a full tube. They are all old enough and needed to be de-wormed before going to their new homes. Mike brought Dancer over. I held her while Mike tied a short rope on each of their halters, Mark opened the trailer door and each one jumped out of the trailer and followed Dancer into the paddock. That went so smoothly it may be our new way of weaning. I still have 2 more to bring in, Lily's filly and Jewel's colt but we didn't have room in the trailer for them. The Monday night girls volley ball games were going on when we finished so Mark and I took the golf cart over to watch. Taunya was there with Addyson. Their dog Rosie had 4 Cavapoo puppies last night. All 4 are doing well. We didn't stay long  as we still needed supper but took the short video below:
For supper tonight we had chicken breast smothered with spaghetti meat sauce. I added mozzarella cheese to mine but Mark added parmesan to his.
It was a late supper and we were both hungry. After supper I took a flashlight up to check on the weanlings. They were all standing quietly near Dancer who was munching away on the bale. There was no frantic running around. Dancer is just so good for them. She is very kind to these poor motherless foals.
