Another Working Saturday

I was up drinking coffee at 5:40 am and praying for the group heading to Gulf Shores, Alabama. They were going to leave at 5:30 am. Joan had mom's recliner in the wheel chair van the night before and most of the packing. Well they didn't end up leaving until 6:00 am so I could have gone over to help with the loading. The wheelchair van had just 5 people in it but that is also all it holds. Joan was the only driver, mom was in the co-pilot seat and insisted on buying a map. Aunt Jinnie, Berlica and Mackenson shared the back seat. Joan sent a couple of videos of their trip they are not there yet but should be by 9:30 pm. They are all going to be exhausted. We got a little over an inch and a half of rain yesterday and during the night.

Today was just cloudy and drizzling. Below are the two other pans I threw away from the foaling apartment. Mark wasn't sure they should have been thrown away. The black for sure needed to be pitched and he didn't want to scrub the red handled one so that too was pitched.
Yesterday I put the new pans in just in time. Well the guests from last night appreciated how nice everything was and left a very nice 5 star review. This stay was really neat! The apartment was cozy and spacious at the same time with plenty of horse art decorations. Right to the side of the barn/apartment is an enclosure with foals who are very friendly! Great stay!
That review made all that work yesterday worth it. The first job today was to get the new barn ready for our airbnb guests coming in today. Mark helped put one of the round tables in the closet as this group needs more floor space than eating space. There are still 2 round tables set up each seating 8 and the big table which seats 12.  They needed 4 full size mattresses made up and one twin size mattress. The couch bed was also made up. In the picture below each mattress is made up with sheets and a comforter then stacked. There are 8 pillows on the top one.
They can just pull off each as needed. The twin was set up in the other area.
Mark was busy working on the gym floor scrapping off bits of paint. The picture below was taken through one of the bullet proof windows.
The guests at the foaling apartment slept in and didn't leave until the official checkout time of 11:00 am. I stopped in to get the laundry started and had to take another picture through a window, this time the kitchen window of the foaling apartment.  There were sleeping foals all over the paddock.
In the center of the picture are Jewel's colt and Lily's filly, in the shelter is Irish's colt and Rosaleigh's colt, standing was Tatiana's filly and behind her laying down was Madiera's colt. Nice that they feel comfortable enough to lay down to sleep. Mike called as I was working to ask if I could come to Goetz road. There was a horse that had fallen into a pond and was not able to get out.  He tried to help with the excavator there on the property but ended up calling the fire department rescue unit. By the time I arrived they were already there and had the horse out of the water but the horse could not stand.
It wasn't just the cold from being in the pond during the night they also found some terrible cuts on his back leg, one went right through to the bone. They also thought the leg was broken as the horse just could not stand.  After assessing the damage everyone concluded it was best to have the gelding put down. The owner was called (they were coming home from Chicago) and agreed that this is what needed to happen. Mike used the excavator to dig a hole and got the horse buried for the owners. By the time I got home I had 3 minutes to change my muddy shoes and get to the driveway to show the airbnb guests the best place to park to get into the barn.
From there I took the golf cart up to the foaling apartment finished cleaning that then went down to start supper. I decided it was the perfect day for chili and made enough for tomorrow's meal too.
I browned 8 pounds of hamburger before adding 3 kinds of beans, chili seasoning, diced tomatoes and tomato sauce. It ended up making 3 and a half gallons.
That has been cooling outside but will be taken up to the apartment fridge in a few minutes.
