Karin came with me to Middle Grove as I had a suspicion that Tatiana would have delivered early and I was right. We drove to the wrong area first and since there were no horses in sight drove back to the gate and hiked up the hill. There was the herd lounging under the trees and as the camera had been hauled up I started taking pictures of all the foals out there only to find the camera card was not IN the camera when I got back to download the pictures. Four days ago Tatiana was bagging up but not yet waxing. It is just so clean out there and much cooler we made the decision to leave her as she is an experienced brood mare. The filly would not have been born that day but was for sure not born today as she is following her mom very well and her cord is dry so we know she was born on July 22nd. What a pleasure it is to find a healthy foal and mom. We brought them in so Tatiana can be bred back to Valiant. They were taken right into a stall and the filly handled. She is surprisingly quiet and tolerant of me holding her and rubbing her ears and nose. They will be put out this evening when it gets a bit cooler.
Sky followed us all the way down to the trailer with her nose touching the filly almost the entire time. She has bonded and did not want us to take her away. She tried to get in the trailer with Tatiana and her filly. Oksana was the other mare that followed us all the way down.
