Home From Middle Grove

We had over a half inch of rain last night again!  So glad Mark and I got the hay off the fields. Hadassah was teased and is now out.  She was moved into a different paddock with Roxanne.  Fedi's German Shepherd puppy got locked in Ruth's car today with the car running and the air on.  Ruth was getting ready to leave after the walk, turned the car on put the puppy inside, shut the door to talk just a little bit longer when the puppy put her paws on the electronic lock.  Fedi was called to ask to bring the extra key but he wasn't able to find the key.  Joan started calling the puppy trying to get the puppy to step back on the door lock but instead he stepped on the back window opener, opening that window just a few inches. We all laughed though, the dog may be smart but not smart enough to know that the back door doesn't open.  Joan was able to reach inside far enough to open the front door and all was well. I spent the morning getting the apartment ready for the guests coming in today but didn't quite have it finished before I needed to load Roxanne and head out to Middle Grove to pick up mares.  Karin agreed to help with the transport and as we have Dr. Hoerr coming in Wednesday for ultrsounds we needed to bring in a bunch of mares. We decided to take 4 today and 3 on Monday. Karin was picked up in Farmington around 10:15 am and after arriving at Middle Grove we had quite a hike to find the herd. Roxanne was actually a lot of help, she kept calling until the herd answered and then came galloping up to meet us. Today we took Sangria, Tori, Zalena and her filly and Jewel and her colt. As soon as we got them back here they were hosed off before putting them in paddocks. It was 90 degrees out and very humid so we and the mares were all sweltering.  Jewel was teased and covered by Evan. It is exactly 3 weeks from the day she ovulated so we are in good shape with getting her covered before she ovulates this time. Jewel's colt is adorable and smart. He walked right into the trailer, then turned around to encourage Zalena's filly to come with him.
Hopefully we can get a some updated pictures of him while he is at this farm as he is for sale.  Jewel's foals by Evan always have huge movement.
The other 3 mares, Tori, Sangria and Zalena all need to be sonagrammed.  Zalena looks like she lost some weight. Her filly though is looking amazing, filled out, stocky and gorgeous.  I may need to keep Zalena here on grain. She is producing plenty of milk to the detriment of her own body.  She isn't terribly thin but not as fat as when we took her out.  On Monday we will need to bring back Galena, Lily and Sheena with their foals. With our hay situation we will be hauling them all right back out if they are pregnant.  The apartment was finished this afternoon and looks good for the guests coming in.  I goofed a bit on the cookies, they were put down on the golf cart which just happened to be parked in the sun and by the time they were brought in they were hot and the chocolate chips were melting.
This evening Mark drove Ruth, mom and I to church. It was raining when we left for church. Greg Rumbold had the message. We could see storms in the distance and by the time we made it home we were watching some awesome lightning strikes of a storm heading out way.
