Dumpster Diving

Today was physically hard but satisfying.  The apartment bedding was washed and everything cleaned but the floors. That wasn't the hard part. The hard part came as I was getting the barn ready for the group coming in on Sunday. They are bringing show collies and want to use 4 stalls. All of the bedding was removed from 2 of the foaling stalls and the one regular stall then the divider put back up between one of the foaling stalls turning that into 2 regular stalls. I'm keeping one foaling stall for my use just in case a mare goes into labor early but as of today none of the udders are close. Hopefully none of them go early.
Mark is going to be putting in a culvert down by the road and called JULIE to mark any utility lines so when  car showed up in the drive I just assumed that is who it was. It wasn't.  The car was quite old and I was surprised when Jake and Spark came walking up. They were marking the electric lines. The car is Jake's car. I think they said it was a a 1988 that Jake bought for around $100.00.
They started it up and that car roared. Jake showed me the engine. I don't know much about engines but that is a big engine for this old car.
It turned out to be a race car.
The next job was to clean out the breeding shed. There were 3 grain bags stuffed with net wrap I wanted to take to the dumpster as pick up day is tomorrow. When I got to the dumpster someone had dumped a bunch of bedding including a down comforter. All of which can be used for the stalls for the dogs.  Those were taken straight to the house and placed in the washer on hot water and washed with a strong detergent plus a lot of bleach. They turned out very well so I went back to the dumpster to look for anything else that could be used and found more including some old towels. It took 3 loads to wash and dry everything but all of it can be used for the dogs and all turned out very clean. The only problem is all of it now smells very strongly of bleach. Hopefully it will lose some of that smell by Sunday or the dogs won't want to use it.  I hung it out on the patio in the sunshine to help with the smell and hopefully once in the stalls the bleach smell will dissipate.
Karin came after work and gave riding lessons to Faith and Berlica.

Rebekah came to work with Irish the Gypsy mare.

If you would like to see the rest of the horse pictures from today click HERE.  This evening Phil and Anna dropped off the girls. They had a lot of fun. We played with the left over confetti from the Horsemeister Play and scattered it all over the room then all three girls helped clean it up.

They were such good helpers.
