A semi load of ag-lime and a semi load of arena sand were ordered today and should be here in a few days. Most of this will be used for the new round pen but some of the sand will also go in the 2 arenas.
When Emily got home from school we started teasing and covering mares. Piper was still in and covered by Valiant, Serenity was also still in and covered by Evan. We were glad we didn't miss her as she wasn't done yesterday. Oksana was still in and covered by Killian. Ayanna is also now showing, she will be done tomorrow by Killian. Kensie was teased and also showed. If she is still in we will get her covered again also. Although the vet was pretty sure she would be out by today. Kensie was put into training today. The wind was gusting to around 30 miles an hour making it miserably cold in the outside arena. We were thankful to use the indoor for her.
Above Emily is using round pen reasoning with her. She must work if she isn't willing to stand quietly by Emily looking at her. Once she figured that out the scary bag was brought out. Now either this mare had already been exposed to this or she is not a flighty horse. She was curious and followed the bag then didn't care if Emily put it all over her body.
Emily does not like to tie horses the first time she saddles and bridles them. If Kensie moved away she was asked to work. She soon learned to stand quietly while the saddle pad, saddle and bridle were put on. Then came the mounting instruction. The mare was asked to stand quietly while Emily mounted from both sides. She had a habit of walking off when being mounted but after about 15 minutes she was standing quietly not moving until Emily gave the walk on cue.
She was asked to walk, trot and canter both directions and did very well, no buck, no spook.
Ayanna was moved out of the middle paddock and put in with Lola, Piper, Oksana and Serenity which made room for Kensie to go in with Jenis and Eliza. Below the 5 mares came running up to meet Kensie. They are very curious about who she is and were watching everything she did.
We moved a new bale into the cabin field hay ring for the three mares there.
After work Mark got busy dragging the miles of driveways here with the road scraper.
Tim Reinhard has a Haitian guest and had him help with the tree trimming. This is Tim up in the tree, the Haitian guest was driving the tractor.
Tim was so far up into the tree the bucket was a good 10 feet below and the road was probably 20 feet below that. Sure wouldn't want to fall from there.
I walked down to get a picture as Tim was climbing back into the bucket.
Mark came down our hill as I was walking back up to the house.
Sheena and Sangria were both stalled tonight. They are not bagged up but both now due. They will be stalled at night then put in the paddock next to the barn during the day. It was fun to turn on the foaling camera and watch them. Like Karin says, "watching a mare get ready for foaling is fascinating." "this is our superbowl!" The camera works over the internet and Karin can see from her house in Maquon while I can watch and listen from my house.
