The girls were only here for the morning. Once they were picked up stalls were cleaned, Whisper teased and covered by Evan and the indoor arena watered. Karin arrived before I was finished watering the arena but the first horse she worked was Oksana who doesn't need the entire arena anyway.
Once she was done with her training she was taken over to Killian to be teased and I was thankful when she screamed and struck out at him. We will now count the days until her ultrasound. The next mare to be worked was Serenity. She was also teased, she was a little hard to read, she let Killian groom her a bit before screaming at him but we will mark her out also. The next mare was Piper. As she was pulling her out of the paddock, Karin remarked, "she is so huge!" Each time she is pulled out of the paddock we almost have to stand back in amazement of her height. Ribbon and Whitney are tall but they are also built drafty, Piper has more of a slender build which makes her look even taller.
She is shed out now, her coat is slick and shiny. After Karin worked her she was teased and showed so was covered by Valiant. It is time for her to go out of season, it has now been a week. Lily may be coming in and will be teased tomorrow. Lola also kind of acted like she was coming in when Evan was up at the breeding stand but when teased gave no reaction at all. We had a breakthrough with Lola, Lola was given to us a few years ago when she was diagnosed with shaking head syndrome. We found when she was pregnant she was much more calm and didn't shake her head as much. She has not been pregnant during this last winter and each time Karin would work her she would reply, "I'm not sure what to think of Lola." Well today she did not shake her head even 1 time. We are starting to think she is healed or it was an anxiety issue with her past training. She is now learning to trust Karin. The picture below was taken last summer at the PRC show with Emily. She did well at that show but we always say pregnancy does wonders. Nice to know she can be ridden even if she is not pregnant.
Although we hope to have her in foal before too long. Karin actually enjoys watching the progress of when a problem horse becomes a valuable usable horse so feel free to keep sending problem mares her way, that is as long as they are big, black, beautiful mares. Mark came home from work early to get some mowing done. He got the blades sharpened and the mower started only to find it must have a gas leak and something else wrong a bit more serious. That mower is now decorating our yard while Mark is mowing with the old walk behind he bought years ago. I'm so glad he hung on to that mower, it is working out great. I'm going to have an early night tonight. The mares were brought in early and I'll be heading to bed soon. Update on Sangria and Sheena: Neither are bagged up and both are now past their due date, nothing to do but wait wait patiently wait.
