Soaked

We got a wonderful good soaking rain last evening and during the night. At times it was pounding hard on the roof and windows for what seemed like hours. Even at 2:22am it was still coming down. I know that because Darcy decided she needed to go outside at that time. All of us living here are thrilled except Mark. He really lost ground yesterday draining the pond. As soon as it is light enough outside he is heading down to make sure the pump isn't now in the water. Now if we get some warm days through October with the grass growth that should happen we will be able to graze the fields, which will help with preserving a bit of the precious hay. We must purchase 4 horse bale rings before we bring the herd back from Middle Grove. We have been putting off this purchase as the cost for all 4 is around a thousand dollars but with hay in so short of supply this year, the cost is justified by the hay savings. One will be placed in the breeding shed, one in the first paddock after Dakota and Myhrrcedes leave, one in the middle paddock and one in Ribbon's paddock.
Karin and Steven have been busy designing the new tack room. That is actually going to be a separate little building we purchased and will move over. It is 16 feet long by 10 feet wide and 12 feet high built on skids with a nice wooden floor. It also has 2 small lofts for storage of little used items, what it doesn't have is electricity. Spark will be asked to add installing electricity and light to that when he comes to give an estimate for the arena lights. We just have way too much tack to fit at the cabin and in the big barn the tack gets so dusty. When Karin saw this she stated, "there is a God and He LOVES me!" sounds like she is a bit excited about having a place for tack here instead of hauling it over from the cabin. We are placing it on the west side of Raven's paddock with the door facing the drive so Mike can install the hitching post along the 16 foot side between the arena and the shed.
