Bale Feeders

On the walk this morning Ruth mentioned she had an extra round bale feeder and offered it to us if we could find hay for her 2 horses for the winter. We got RIGHT on THAT! What a deal. Steven Marchal happened to come by with his monster truck, we drove right over and brought the feeder home. This feeder is an older model and much better made than the new ones that are sold now. We were able to take it apart and use just 2 sections for one of the shelters in the middle paddock. The third section was taken over to the breeding shed and attached to a section of one of ours and that works! Now if we could get Mike to design a cover for that one. We had a gate at the back end of the small paddock and the gate can be opened the bale put in, then the 2 sections tied to the gate. This was Steven's idea and it was genius just needs some kind of tarp!
We still have one good section left and one bent up section. If we can fix the bent one, we may be able to make those two sections work on Ribbon's shelter. The very first paddock has a double shelter in and we have an old cow bale ring that can fit in there. Cow rings if used the correct way do NOT work for horses, they just rip the mane out from the top of the neck to the bottom but if we turn it upside down it may work for the young ones.
After working on putting in the bales in the newly designed rings, we took Ribbon over to Raven, yes she is still in and yes she was covered.
Steven took Eliza out and is teaching her to lunge and already she has the whoa down pat. Eliza really wants to please Steven and this is a good change we have seen in her. When she first arrived, she had no manners at all.
I had to take a trip out to Skylines and ran into road construction both on the way there and on the way back and I went 2 different ways. What's with THAT? Did Obama pass another incentive fund or something.
After dark and it is VERY dark tonight we went through the rental house trying to figure out a better floor plan. Hope the walkers will give us some ideas, Mark and I NEED help on this one.
