Catch Up
This morning is SUNDAY, Yeah a day of rest and a day we can fellowship together with our church family while worshiping our wonderful awesome Lord.
Last week it seemed everyone was trying to squeeze everything possible into the last few weeks of summer, such a busy time of year.
Lisa Waibel hosted the South Side Mission kids at Pleasant home. Rachel set up the snow cone machine with one of her boys running that and a face painting booth which she ran. Anni brought the big blow up water slide. It was very well attended and everyone had a wonderful time.
Beth hosted the Jail ladies for an overnight at Norris. That wasn't so successful, Marilyn slipped, fell and broke her hip. She was taken by ambulance to Proctor hospital.
We are still in the heat, even though it was predicted to be in the 80s the last two days the temps went to the 90s, at least the low 90s. Today's high will be again in the 90s but tomorrow we are suppse to have a cool front come through.
Rhoda has a prospective buyer that wants updated pictures of male pup number one better get busy and try to post that soon, it takes forever to download.

a Busy Saturday
We slept in this morning not rising until after 6:00am and even then felt like we needed a few more hours. The pups decided they NEEDED to go outside at 3:00am to go to the bathroom. Why oh why did we teach them to go outside?
The morning was cool and overcast so both mares with their foals were left outside until later.
Diane and Mike invited us to breakfast at 8:30am serving Raber's thick slab bacon, farm fresh free range eggs, potatoes fried up with more bacon whole wheat toast with black raspberry jam, fresh squeezed orange juice and coffee. Then it was off to work. Mark started back on moving the manure while Mike and Karin came over to help cover Jenis. They rode over on Bunni and Mika, the 2 horses Mike will be taking to Colorado elk hunting in September.
French Fry was teased as today is the 14th day since she went out, usually we wait for 18 days but her owner would like her teased sooner. She was not in so Breyer was brought out and she is also not in.
The stalls were cleaned and the air turned on before bringing Jenis and her colt in.
Mike brought the IH tractor and mower so the pastures can be mowed. This job was started but not finished, just not enough hours to get everything done.
The kids were all coming for dinner so off to Sams to purchase ribeye steaks, corn, lettuce, mushrooms, Vandalia onions and fruit, lots of fruit. Blue berries, bing cherries, black seedless grapes and strawberries all looked to good to resist. Karin and mom joined us for dinner.
During the preparation a lady called from Belvidere wanting pictures of some of the female pups. Rhoda brought the 2 in that she was interested and pictures were taken of them and placed on the website.
We think they are the cutest most adorable puppies out there and we are not at all prejudiced, no, no not us!
Once Jenis was turned out it was time for us to turn in.

Water
Rhoda needed the oil changed in her car and Philip needed to have his arm checked out and Anna had to work. So this is how we worked it all out. Rhoda took her car in, I followed, picked her up then drove to St. Francis and picked up Braelyn. We enjoyed a nice breakfast at Bob Evan's then off to TSC my favorite store to shop. We spent some time picking out fly paper, calf manna for Sanna's filly, 2 dog bowls on clearance, more bedding and puppy food spending a whopping $151.00. Braelyn enjoyed the shopping experience.
Once back at the farm she promptly fell asleep. A carload from Taylor heading to the Leo sale called to see if they could stop in and see the horses and puppies on their way to Peoria to pick up more people heading to the sale. They got here a little after noon, played with the puppies, looked at the foals then watched Rhoda work Evan. He had to show them how he bows and lays down.
Rhoda's car was finished and Phil was ready for Braelyn so back to Peoria we drove.
Mom asked for a head of lettuce and it was a good excuse to buy ice cream also at Aldis.
Ylse and Breyer were teased today. Raven was very disappointed neither mare were interested. Jenis is still in but was covered yesterday. She will need to be done tomorrow.
Mark left work at noon to start the process of removing the manure piles. He was working well getting a lot accomplished until the dump trailer door hit one of the hydrants. The water was pouring out and it took a bit to figure out the correct turn off. We lost all the water to the last 2 paddocks, the office and both barns. David Sauder was called for HELP. He and Rachel were on date night shopping at walmart when we were able to get hold of them. David went over to Lowes to pick up a cap. Mike came over and put a reducing 90 degree elbow which made it an easy temporary fix when David and Rachel got here.
Tara and Jay brought over their family plus Josiah to visit the pups, then Diane brought over four of her grandchildren. After playing with the pups it was over to the haybales and vaulting barrel.
By the time the Sauders arrived it was pretty pitch black but no problem the cap was put on and does not leak. THANK YOU DAVID! What a way to finish your date night.

Puppies at 6 weeks
Yesterday started at 4:30am with puppies yelping ready to be fed. Today they are 6 weeks old so Rhoda came in and took some pictures last night for the website.
As the day was going to be busy there was no going back to bed once they were fed. The morning was so deliciously cool it was a joy to be able to clean the stalls before 5:00am. After the walk a trip to the Fast Stop in Hanna City for diesel fuel as the skid steer was going to be in use today. Mark had 5 gallons waiting and while I was purchasing 10 more gallons, Mike came out of his office and asked if I was going back home, his office workers, Shannan and Jennifer wanted to come see the pups. Good thing I had already spent over an hour cleaning their stall, taking out the indoor outdoor carpet and hosing it off, then sweeping out the barn. The transport company thought they would be here around 2:00pm, meaning I should not leave the place until they arrived. They were bringing a mare in from West Virginia named Breyer to breed to Raven. Steven Marchal arrived in the afternoon. He helped with moving horses around to prepare a paddock for Breyer, by putting Ylse and Pari in the field, then as it was nice out the 2 boys were let in the pasture behind Raven. We had to watch them have fun bucking and galloping around. One can sure waste time standing around watching young stallions but they were so entertaining. Jenis is in her foal heat and Steven helped get her covered. She is not an easy mare, she acts like a stallion herself but Raven got the job done. While this was going on, we hear squealing and find the boys made it over the fence in with Ylse who was making sure they kept their distance.
Steven had only a few hours to help as he came straight from his work and he has puppies at his place that would need care by 4:00pm. We were able to clean out the bale in the middle paddock none of the horses would eat and move in one of our first cutting from way back in the field. We will see if they will eat this one. What spoiled horses we have. We needed to stack the bales to be traded for Gary Unsicker and had to decide which ones our horses would not want ending up with 14 bales to trade. I'll call Chuck today and tell him they are ready to go. Once Steven left I started moving bales off the side of the field and into the barn.
Mom called and invited us to dinner and what a wonderful invitation. I'm not compulsive or anything but don't like to stop work just to prepare a meal.
The transport company had not yet arrived so they were called and given mom's number. Sure enough they called during dinner to explain they had a flat tire, then one of the horses on the trailer went down and needed care. They thought they would arrive around 9:00pm. After dinner Mark moved the dump trailer to the back and Mike helped him unload the wood splitter and stove, then power washed the finish mower deck for the Kabota which he wants to sell on ebay.
The transport company actually arrived around 11:00pm, backed into the arena, unloaded and gave the old pony a rest in one of the stalls so she could lay down while they moved around the other horses. Their rig is a huge 7 horse with living quarters. They were very professional and great with the horses.
Breyer was taken to her paddock, she is a very nice mare and will be a great cross with Raven. Once they left the 2 mare stalls still needed to be cleaned before falling into bed around 11:45pm.

Cooler Weather Coming
This morning it is cooler outside than in. What a nice break from the hot muggy mornings the last month. Yesterday was laundry day, the load was started early, even before dressing for the day which ended up being a mistake. When I went to dress there was a certain unmentionable not in the drawer, not even an old ratty one, as they were all pitched before the big move. With this heat and having to change clothes a couple of times a day,I was in trouble. Now there was no way I wanted to go on the walk swinging freely in the wind. My first thought was, no problem, I'll just get one out of the washer, except we have a front load washer that locks until done. then frantically going through all of the drawers looking, I found my swimming suit, put it on under the clothes and it worked, genius!
Steven is coming today to help with some chores that we are falling behind on. We have a family coming to look at a puppy and their stall needs to be cleaned, and a mare is coming in today all the way from New York for breeding. The shipper called yesterday explaining they would arrive in the middle of the night then called back when we were in church that they were held up and now they will arrive sometime today.

Braelyn Camping Karin's Video
Karin took these pictures of Phil, Anna and Braelyn at Lake Shelbyville. She was kind enough to share them with me.
The Bible requests are all typed out and the boxes are prepared for the UPS man to ship to Texas. It took all morning going through the hundreds of letters. Each time I do this the thought comes if I would just type them in as they come it wouldn't be so overwhelming. There really needs to be more hours in the day.

BETTER
A dry tail! Who would have thought that would be cause for rejoicing but rejoicing I am. No diarrhea on her rump, legs or tail, in fact she is dry all over with a good appetite. Mark's very strong flashlight was borrowed to check her over well as it was still a bit dark in the stalls. The stalls were cleaned and prepared for the day before the day heats up but we have a cool spell coming, instead of way in the 90s we will only have a high near 89 degrees, still to dangerous for new black babies but 10 degrees will make a difference for us. Jenis will be brought in after the walk.
Good-by to the Reinhards
Yesterday Matt and Lisa Waibel had a farewell party for Joan, Tim, Sarah, Bethany, Hanna and Faith. It will be another LONG 10 months before we see them again unless we travel to them. They leave on the Bradley bus at 6:00am today. The farewell was well attended, many came to say good-by. Spark took his firetruck and the girls gave a small demonstration on the silks, then let some of the other kids try. The many many kids had a good time climbing all over the firetruck. Karin took videos, hope she will share as I forgot my camera.
Sue Martin, the owner of Sanna's 2 year old filly emailed pictures and it was so frustrating not to be able to see them until this morning when the sprint stick finally started working, not well but at least working. Sue wrote that she measured Piper the weekend before her 2 year birthday and she sticked at 15.2 that is huge for only a 2 year old. Piper is going to be a very tall horse and by looking at the picture she is sure getting enough groceries. Thanks Sue, she looks GREAT!
Sue also wrote: "She is her mothers daughter as she loves the water and even lets me wet her face. I have saddled her twice and both times she never cared. Such a sweetheart!"
We always appreciate updates on Raven's offspring.
Emily Rickitts called with an update on Jewel. She said she is wonderful, exactly the kind of horse she loves. She has walk, trot, and cantered her and is really enjoying the summer with her.
The leak at Bridlewood is now fixed, kind of scared to see that bill, they had to bring in an excavator and really dug up the side paddock to fix it.
At 5:38am the sky is just starting to lighten with gorgeous pink and purple painted clouds in the East. The puppies are waiting for their breakfast and Sanna's filly needs to be checked. Last night she came running up, then took off so she must be feeling a bit better. Jenis was also put for the night and will need to be brought in. Last night at 9:30 the heat index was still 100 degrees but since the sun was down, Jenis and her colt could go out. It is the sunshine that heats up that black skin and causes the foals to overheat.
Today once the laundry and cleaning are done, I need to go back into Meisters to work on Berean letters, yesterday we just didn't finish.

French Fry
The owner of French Fry decided to have her stay until Dr. Hoerr gets back on August 16th, for her ultrasound. Karin came over and held French Fry so we could take some pictures for her owner. This is a very nice mare and her foal by Raven will be an absolutely beautiful baby!

Our airconditioner, set on 77 degrees kicked on at 5:00am this morning. The news is reporting heat indexes of 114 degrees today perhaps actual degrees of 99-101, dangerously hot and humid and saying today could possibly be the hottest day of the summer. Sanna's filly's back end was covered in diarrhea this morning, discouraging as she is on biosponge but once she was hosed clean she trotted back to her grain. She is acting brighter this morning but it could be it is still cool and she had to have a bath.
Jenis will be brought in shortly, hope she enjoyed her night of freedom and really hope she took good care of her colt.
Today is Berean day and a trip to Skyline home needs to happen to collect all the wrapping supplies as our church in Toledo, OH will be wrapping Bibles for the Bible program. Katie Hofstetter will be driving the Bibles and supplies out when she visits her brother Willie next week. How we miss Willie in Peoria. He was always willing to come to the office, pick up the Bibles, deliver them to the Home and then bring them back when finished.

Updated Puppy Pictures
Amy Koch came tonight and helped move Jenis and her colt out to the pasture for the night. It actually took 3 of us, the colt decided to go the wrong way. Good thing Rhoda came home to help. She also helped give the boy his tetanus shot and brought another 30 pounds of puppy food.
She placed another ad for the puppies and needed pictures and here they are. They are just about the cutest puppies EVER!

Do NOT Call Again!
Rhoda signed up for a free puppy ad on a puppy sale site on Friday. Saturday the phone started ringing over and over always for Rhoda explaining she had signed up for car insurance, house insurance, health insurance, online classes at many different colleges, online courses, online surveys and just about anything else one can purchase online. This has been a complete nuisance, over and over as soon as the caller asks for Rhoda they are told to take her off the list and DON'T CALL BACK! Never again will we use that site. It must have been this web sight that sold her information, only she used my phone number in the ad.
Sanna's filly is still having bad diarrhea and on the way to the vet to pick up biosponge the phone rang 3 times for Rhoda. Camping Pictures
The morning is off to a wonderful start. Good coffee after 2 days of bad, a decent night sleep and now the internet is working enough to upload the pictures.
The first picture has a story. Karin was climbing on the boat, Diane sees her getting ready to walk over to a place to sit and starts telling Karin very loudly, "don't sit down!" Somehow Karin had picked up this huge hook. Actually the fishermen here must not be careful with their tackle, this was not the only time a hook hooked something other than a fish.

Steven and Luke being pulled by the pontoon boat. This worked well until Mike opened up the gas and the pontoon took off at full speed. At that point we realized the rubber boat was going to take in water so they were pulled back in and rode the rest of the way on the pontoon.

We stopped at one beach but decided it was too small and took off exploring until we found a island. The pontoon was anchored and the kids let out to go exploring.
Dan pulled up with his speed boat and all 7 of his family. Once he unloaded anyone that wanted to go wakeboarding went on his boat while the rest of us just enjoyed the island and the water.

We were having fun trying to catch them in midair. Sometimes we were successful but other times the camera would snap as they were entering the water, those pictures were deleted.

Sophia jumping. Dan's family had just come from Lake Norfork where all the kids had been jumping off Norforks cliffs. Those cliffs are 30-50 feet high so these little ones were not much challenge for his family.

Karin took all the video, her camera is waterproof so the video will be posted once she has it up. The trip was successful and we were very glad we decided against bringing the horses. The heat has been unrelenting this summer, making horse camping not very desirable. It is to be in the 90s again today and tomorrow's high is predicted to be 96. Even mom cannot remember such a long heat spell, day after day of temperatures in the 90s. Maybe there really is something to this global warming.
The first picture has a story. Karin was climbing on the boat, Diane sees her getting ready to walk over to a place to sit and starts telling Karin very loudly, "don't sit down!" Somehow Karin had picked up this huge hook. Actually the fishermen here must not be careful with their tackle, this was not the only time a hook hooked something other than a fish.

Steven and Luke being pulled by the pontoon boat. This worked well until Mike opened up the gas and the pontoon took off at full speed. At that point we realized the rubber boat was going to take in water so they were pulled back in and rode the rest of the way on the pontoon.

We stopped at one beach but decided it was too small and took off exploring until we found a island. The pontoon was anchored and the kids let out to go exploring.
Dan pulled up with his speed boat and all 7 of his family. Once he unloaded anyone that wanted to go wakeboarding went on his boat while the rest of us just enjoyed the island and the water.
